[name]Elder[/name] sister: Sansa Nanami

Hello everyone. I was looking to get some opinions on a few names that have been floating around my brain lately. Having a difficult time with my lists right now - it’s at the point where I feel like throwing everything out - so any help is MUCH appreciated. Suggestions are fine as long as it’s not “Lose the wacky names and try these ones!” etc. Not that I think I have to worry about that, but, well, you know.

• [name]Anoushka[/name]
• [name]Astoria[/name]
• [name]Clea[/name]
• [name]Cordelia[/name]
• [name]Cosima[/name]
• [name]Delphine[/name]
• [name]Edie[/name]/[name]Edith[/name]
• [name]Elettra[/name]
• [name]Endellion[/name]
• [name]Etta[/name]
• [name]Eulalie[/name]
• [name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juniper[/name]
• [name]Maeve[/name]
• [name]Marina[/name]
• [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Maude[/name]
• [name]Paloma[/name]
• [name]Poppy[/name]
• [name]Rui[/name]
• [name]Tamsin[/name]
• [name]Wilhelmina[/name]
• [name]Winter[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]

These are my favorites from your list, I think sisters Sansa & [name]Paloma[/name] are gorgeous.

• [name]Cordelia[/name]
• [name]Edie[/name]
• [name]Etta[/name]
• [name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juniper[/name]
• [name]Maeve[/name]
• [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Maude[/name]
• [name]Paloma[/name]
• [name]Poppy[/name]
• [name]Winter[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]

• Anoushka - Prefer Anouk. Anoushka, though really fun to say, is very diminutive. Anouk nn Anoushka?
• Astoria - No. Queens, NY.
• Clea - Beautiful, surprising, sexy. Good with Sansa.
• Cordelia - Not with Sansa. Sansa is so modern and sleek. Cordelia is all brocade and pearls. Plus, Lear is a bloodbath.
• Cosima - Gorgeous. Not bad with Sansa phonetically, but completely different in tone.
• Delphine - Too beautiful to nix. But it overpowers delicate Sansa, imo. Perhaps a middle name?
• Edie/Edith - Edith and Sansa could be nice. Very different in popularity though. I despise Edie, but Edith is delicious.
• Elettra - Crazy Elettra! Not sure about the namesake, though it’s a great play.
• Endellion - Love this, but not with Sansa. You need something minimal and fresh next to Sansa.
• Etta - Sure! Jazzy, bright, unexpected. I can see Etta and Sansa together.
• Eulalie - I enjoy Eulalie’s yodelerific sound, but again, she’s from a completely different universe than Sansa.
• Juno/Juniper - Juno and Sansa gets a thumbs-up from me. A great pairing.
• Maeve - Yes, this could work. Maeve is much stronger than Sansa, imo, so it might overpower Sansa. Love Maeve.
• Marina - Oddly good! Marina is much more literal than Sansa, but it’s a beautiful watery blue name, and it has a gentleness that’s akin to Sansa.
• Matilda/Maude - Matilda is too calico and Maude is too severe next to Sansa.
• Paloma - Maybe. Paloma is so so gorgeous. I like it, but it might upstage Sansa. Not sure. Perhaps as a middle?
• Poppy - Meh.
• Rui - What is Rui? Quite close to “ruin,” and Roy. NMS. But it’s about as mysterious as Sansa, so it could work.
• Tamsin - Lovely. Feels delicate and a bit androgynous. I think it could totally work with Sansa.
• Wilhelmina - Too hefty/German next to San.
• Winter/Winnie - Middle name? Not sure. I really like Winter, but it’s getting trendy. Winnie is adorable, but does Sansa have a cute nickname too?

I love:

[name]Cosima[/name] (it’s just recently grown on me, and now I really adore it!)
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Edith[/name] “[name]Edie[/name]”
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Winter[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Anouk[/name], but don’t particularly feel inspired one way or the other regarding [name]Anoushka[/name]. What about [name]Anouk[/name] nn [name]Anoushka[/name]? Or [name]Anoushka[/name] nn [name]Anouk[/name]? Either way, I love [name]Anouk[/name]. I like [name]Electra[/name] (and [name]Elettra[/name]!)–and find it quite cool with Sansa. I find [name]Clea[/name] quite lovely with Sansa, as well. And I can’t decide how I feel about [name]Marina[/name]–I used to adore it, but over the past couple years it’s had a “meh” feeling to me. Not great, but not bad. I think I just got tired of it, but it is lovely. I do think Sansa and [name]Marina[/name] or Sansa and [name]Clea[/name] would be lovely, though…

Good luck!

misslindseylou: Thanks for your input!

emmabobemma: Right to the point, thanks for the detail you put into the response. Kind of sad about [name]Astoria[/name], as that had been a #2 to Sansa for so long. But, I digress. Any alternate ideas that come to mind that aren’t on the list yet?

PS- I think I’m a bit name style confused, as Sansa does have that delicate feel to it, but I don’t see myself as gravitating toward that type of name? Not sure if that makes sense or not.

ashthedreamer: I like what you said about [name]Marina[/name], as I feel borderline that way about it (tired), but something in me didn’t want to rule it out just yet.

My favorites from your list are

[name]Astoria[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Maude[/name]
[name]Winter[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]

Some other suggestions
[name]Celestia[/name]
[name]Cressida[/name]
[name]Eliora[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Oceana[/name]
[name]Jonquil[/name]

isabellemarie: Thank you. I like [name]Cressida[/name], [name]Eliora[/name], & [name]Mabel[/name]

I like [name]Juno[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] best from your list. I’ve never met a [name]Juno[/name]. Come to think of it, I could say that about many of the names on your list. And to me that’s generally a good thing.
Would [name]Wilhelmina[/name] ever get called by her full name? It seems rather awkward to me. I don’t mind the name but I can just imagine aunties, grandparents, etc. finding a nn rather than stumbling through the whole thing. But perhaps you don’t mind that. And I do like long names.
[name]Marina[/name] isn’t quite old-ladyish enough yet to be fresh on a baby, I think.

• [name]Anoushka[/name] – Severely dislike. An Ooshka? What’s an Ooshka? Uness there’s something silent in there…?
• [name]Astoria[/name] – Cute, sounds like a fictional place. (unless it’s a real place, my bad.)
• [name]Clea[/name] – No… Clean…
• [name]Cordelia[/name] – Cute, don’t like the way is feels int he mouth though.
• [name]Cosima[/name] – Adorable. [name]Love[/name].
• [name]Delphine[/name] – Makes me think of Dolphins, but it’s more of a neutral association than a negative one. Okay.
• [name]Edie[/name]/[name]Edith[/name] – [name]Love[/name] [name]Edith[/name]!
• [name]Elettra[/name] – Like [name]Electra[/name]? Or letters? Meh.
• [name]Endellion[/name] – Madallion! Or Dandilion! Meh, too out there, even for me. Sounds really made up.
• [name]Etta[/name] – Cute as a nn.
• [name]Eulalie[/name] – Ukulele?
• [name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juniper[/name] – Cute!
• [name]Maeve[/name] – Cute, prefer [name]Mauve[/name] though.
• [name]Marina[/name] – Bad association with a person for me. Dislike intensely. Also not a fan of the ‘ee’ sound in general.
• [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Maude[/name] – [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]! Is [name]Maude[/name] a nn for it? I also like [name]Maude[/name].
• [name]Paloma[/name] – Meh, don’t like P names. This is also too soft for me.
• [name]Poppy[/name] – Cute! Can’t see it aging too well, though…
• [name]Rui[/name] – Roo-ee? Cool, I suppose, sounds [name]Indian[/name] (as in [name]India[/name]).
• [name]Tamsin[/name] – Cute, not my fav.
• [name]Wilhelmina[/name] – [name]Adore[/name]. I love vintage revival names.
• [name]Winter[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name] – Cute!

Sorry, I’m weirdly picky…

celianne- Nah, no worries! Feedback I take as a good thing, positive or negative. You were very polite so that’s perfect  [name]Rui[/name] is Japanese, actually. I like it, but DP is now saying that she think it’d be too hard for people to pronounce. Darn it. xD

triss - I like [name]Wilhelmina[/name] as either full name, or w/ a nickname. I like that there are a lot of nn possibilities, that was one selling point that got me liking it, so that people could kind of pick their own, or DD herself could find one that was a perfect fit when she’s older.

Winners:

• [name]Clea[/name]
• [name]Cordelia[/name]
• [name]Cosima[/name]

• [name]Maeve[/name]
• [name]Marina[/name]

• [name]Paloma[/name]
• [name]Poppy[/name]

• [name]Tamsin[/name]

• [name]Winter[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name]

Like a lot of your names but feel like some pale in comparison to Sansa… you set the bar high with Sansa!

• [name]Anoushka[/name] - love [name]Anouk[/name]. Not sure about [name]Anoushka[/name].
• [name]Astoria[/name] - also think of Queens, NY. Pretty otherwise.
• [name]Clea[/name] - love.
• [name]Cordelia[/name] - not so much with Sansa.
• [name]Cosima[/name] - love.
• [name]Delphine[/name] - ok but not great.
• [name]Edie[/name]/[name]Edith[/name] - does not stand up to Sansa.
• [name]Elettra[/name] - ok but I think [name]Electra[/name].
• [name]Endellion[/name] - makes me think Dandelion.
• [name]Etta[/name] - love the name but does not stand up to Sansa.
• [name]Eulalie[/name] - not so much with Sansa.
• [name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juniper[/name] - I actually prefer [name]Juno[/name] with Sansa as [name]Juniper[/name] feels too modern/wordy.
• [name]Maeve[/name] - I generally love this name but it sounds harsh to me next to Sansa.
• [name]Marina[/name] - does not stand up to Sansa.
• [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Maude[/name] - does not stand up to Sansa.
• [name]Paloma[/name] - love.
• [name]Poppy[/name] - does not stand up to Sansa.
• [name]Rui[/name] - don’t know this name. Seems ok but i prefer something a little longer or with a prettier spelling.
• [name]Tamsin[/name] - maybe.
• [name]Wilhelmina[/name] - not so much with Sansa.
• [name]Winter[/name]/[name]Winnie[/name][/QUOTE] - does not stand up to Sansa and too wordy.

So my faves with Sansa are [name]Clea[/name], [name]Cosima[/name], [name]Paloma[/name], maybe [name]Juno[/name], and maybe [name]Tamsin[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the first three. Also like the suggestion of [name]Cressida[/name].

Here are my favorites:

• [name]Edie[/name]
• [name]Etta[/name]
• [name]Marina[/name]
• [name]Paloma[/name]
• [name]Poppy[/name]

I spent some time in [name]Argentina[/name] many years ago and many of the girls were named [name]Mariana[/name]. So, I have a soft spot for that variation. This name thing is harder than I thought it would be, right? Good luck to you.

My favorites to go with the beautiful Sanskrit name Sansa are:

• [name]Cosima[/name]
• [name]Delphine[/name]
• [name]Elettra[/name]
• [name]Eulalie[/name]
• [name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juniper[/name]
• [name]Paloma[/name]
• [name]Tamsin[/name]

Here are a few suggestions that match Sansa’s origin:
[name]Arya[/name]
[name]Asha[/name]
[name]Neela[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Priya[/name]
[name]Veda[/name]

Sansa and [name]Clea[/name] are absolutely wonderful together!

Thanks everyone!

kashed: I wasn’t picking it for its origin, but I do confess to liking Sanskrit names  Of those I like all except for [name]Veda[/name]. [name]Arya[/name] is nice but too popular with [name]Aria[/name] rising the charts, and too “Game of Thrones” as the main family in that series has daughter named Sansa and [name]Arya[/name].

[name]Okey[/name] dokey, so I finally compared names I was thinking about with DP… we haven’t even touched boy names yet; there were so many to go over thus far. Anyway, here is the pool that are all approved. I ended up getting a few I really liked nixed, but on the bright side, she came up with some favorites that I hadn’t liked as much and made me think about them more. So … progress?

I apologize in advance for the volume of names.

APPROVED 1st Names (bolded are DP’s 5 overall favorites):

[name]Astoria[/name]
[name]Clea[/name]/[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Rue[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Etta[/name]
[name]Eulalie[/name] / [name]Eulalia[/name]
[name]Juno[/name] / [name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name] / [name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] / [name]Maude[/name]
[name]Paloma[/name]
[name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Willemina[/name] (DP likes the name, but wants this spelling to avoid “hell” pronunication in Wihelmina. I’m ok with it)
[name]Winter[/name] / [name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Olivine[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] / [name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Reina[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Millie[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]

[name]Atalanta[/name]
[name]Augusta[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Indigo[/name] / [name]Indira[/name] “[name]Indie[/name]”
[name]Ines[/name]
[name]Jemima[/name]
[name]Margo[/name]

APPROVED, for middle name only:
[name]Hanako[/name]
Mizuki
Izumi
[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
Chloë
[name]Alex[/name]- names ([name]Alexandra[/name] and [name]Alexia[/name], mainly. I like [name]Alexandrina[/name] best, but the FN would have to be on the short side)
[name]Elanor[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
Clémence

APPROVED (but I have a concern with):
[name]Ada[/name] — I like it, but I’d prefer spelling it maybe… [name]Adah[/name]? I don’t normally go for alternate spellings, so I don’t know if this is just a dumb idea or not.
[name]Ruby[/name] — I like it - it’s even my birthstone - but it’s getting a little popular for my tastes. Pop it in the MN spot?
Noémie — I have a friend with a daughter named [name]Naomi[/name]. I see her often. Problematic?
[name]Dawn[/name] (middle name only) ---- I have family members with [name]Dawn[/name]-related names, and I don’t really want to seem like I’m honoring them.

Anything stand out as sister material for Sansa from what’s here?

From your list I love:
[name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Edie[/name]/[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Etta[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Maude[/name]
[name]Rui[/name]

You have great taste in names and its cool you like unique names and have your own style!

Oh, good to know! I don’t watch GOT. That would be too much!
