[name]Doris[/name]
It is my grandma’s name and I’d love to name my daughter after her…
First name? middle name? Or any alternate suggestions?
Personally, I don’t like the name. But if the name holds special meaning for you because it’s your grandmother’s name, by all means, use it if that’s what you like.
I do think that if you name your daughter that, she’ll see the other girls with their pretty girly names like [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Abbie[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name] and she’ll kind of feel jealous. That’s always a possibility. [name]Doris[/name] is a bit old fashioned.
I think [name]Doris[/name] would be a decent middle name. Perhaps [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Doris[/name]? Or [name]Clarissa[/name] [name]Doris[/name]? Or [name]Allison[/name] [name]Doris[/name]? Or [name]Chloe[/name] [name]Doris[/name]?
I think honoring your grandmother by giving your daughter her name as a middle name would be best. This way you still get to use your own creativity and pick out a first name you truly love.
[name]Dorian[/name]. I knew a girl with this name and she was so pretty and quiet and I thought her name was amazing. It’s not used enough by the boys for them to own it even though the original [name]Dorian[/name] was a man.
[name]Dorothea[/name]…
I think this could be cute for a little girl, though I vastly prefer [name]Dorothy[/name] and [name]Dorothea[/name]. [name]Dory[/name] is a sweet nickname, and [name]Dot[/name] and [name]Dottie[/name] have a retro-spunky feel.
i know a girl named [name]Doris[/name]… sooooooooooooo sweet and kind. The name… hmmm sorry but it’s a little to old lady for me.
Not to much, but [name]Dora[/name], [name]Dorrie[/name], or the French [name]Doriane[/name] I could get behind.
I think old lady too. [name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Dorian[/name] ( maybe [name]Dorianne[/name] so its a squish of [name]Doris[/name] and [name]Anne[/name] rather than a reference to [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Grey[/name]. And [name]Dorothea[/name] is cute too.
[name]Doris[/name] has potential middle name use.
My grandmother was [name]Norma[/name] so not a name Id use but I thought I’d honnor her useing her initials rather than her name. Ie [name]Norma[/name] [name]Ann[/name] becomes [name]Neve[/name] [name]Augusta[/name]?
I have a great aunt [name]Doris[/name]. I will say that I’ve had several teenage Hispanic students named [name]Doris[/name] and [name]Gladys[/name]. It will probably be coming back into style soon, just like the other old lady names.
[name]Dora[/name] I would. [name]Iris[/name] I would. Not sure I would do [name]Doris[/name], though.
I don’t like [name]Doris[/name], but I like some of the suggestions so far. I saw someone named Dorissa once, I wonder if her parents had a [name]Doris[/name] in the family and wanted to make it a little more modern and feminine. She went by [name]Rissa[/name], not [name]Dora[/name] or [name]Dory[/name].
[name]Dora[/name] for sure! It sounds fresher/less dated than [name]Doris[/name] while still honoring it.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I would most likely use it for a middle—saw someone with a similar thread and the suggestion isadora? Too much of a stretch?
I am sure [name]Doris[/name] will be back in style soon, but if you don’t love it for itself, keep it as a middle name.
I’ll give you an “[name]Even[/name] a little!”
An older relative named [name]Doris[/name] says it in a way that I do like, the first syllable rhyming with “car” instead of “door.” It makes it feel kind of breezy and wholesome to me, instead of stuffy. I think it may take a little time, but [name]Doris[/name] could come back. [name]Dory[/name] or [name]Rissa[/name] are sweet nicknames.
Honestly, I really like the name [name]Doris[/name]. I think that it could work well as a fn or a mn. If there is another girls name that you like though you could always use a name you like for the fn and use [name]Doris[/name] to honor your Grandma as the mn.
I’m going to go against the grain here and say that I think [name]Doris[/name] has the potential to be just as adorable and spunky as the other retro-vintage names that are popular right now. I think anything with a “dor” sound would work, though.
I think [name]Isadora[/name] totally work! In fact, it has [name]Doris[/name] right in there, lol.
I was going to suggest [name]Isadora[/name], but someone beat me too it so I second that! [name]Isadora[/name] or [name]Isadore[/name]/[name]Isidore[/name] (I know [name]Isidore[/name] is a boys name, but it’s so unused now I think it could safely be worn by a girl) is just [name]Doris[/name] mixed up, so I think it would be a sweet way to honor her. If you’re going to use [name]Doris[/name] on its’ own, I would put it in the middle. I also want to honor my grandparents, but I’ve realized their names might be difficult to live with… I think your situation is similar.
I don’t like [name]Doris[/name] even a slight bit… Sorry! [name]Dorothea[/name] is a little better, but I’m not really a fan of that either… I think it’s a bit TOO dated, and [name]IMO[/name] it’s not a pretty name even if it weren’t so "Old lady-ish’
