I am aware that some of these names are actually nice and would have some sentimental value to some and I’m not trying to be nasty about any of these names, just noticed that some have not so nice words in them.

I know that some people do make these links however I don’t. But each person’s mind works differently.

It only really bothers me if you can clearly tell what the word is when you hear the name, and they make a comprehensive phrase. [name_m]Maddox[/name_m] is the one that bugs me. If it was said Mad-oh it’d be okay, but from the pronunciations I’ve found (I haven’t actually heard it aloud, excuse me if I’m wrong) it actually sounds like Mad ox, so I don’t understand the appeal. I actually like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], because it has ‘adora’ in it, and you can hear that more than the sad bit (which comes out like za-d anyway). So it doesn’t bother me, but there’s a lot of way less logical stuff that does.

None of these connections have ever occurred to me. But it makes complete sense how this could be an issue for someone. I think its interesting how we all have such different ways of relating to names. I don’t deconstruct names into parts or syllables, when i see or hear them. I hear the whole name and then my brain jumps to conclusions and feelings, usually with much less logic than this. It’s possible that subconsciously I do notice the ‘negative’ words hiding within them.

Thanks for your replies. These names and the not so appealing words in them were pointed out to me by a friend and now it’s just kinda stuck in my head. I’ve heard children tease others with some of the names mentioned and it makes me hesitant to use them due to the bullying.

I feel the same way.
