Me! I’m not into it at all. But I never have been. It’s always seemed trendy and not very substantial.
It’s fine but nothing special. I wouldn’t use it. I understand people using it here as it’s a traditional name but it’s in the top five here in the UK and is just sooo boring.
I like the sound of it and don’t know many babies named [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but it does feel insubstantial to me. I much prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f].
I feel how you’re feeling when people tell me that they’ve named their baby [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - I think berries get bored of hearing similar birth announcements, whereas parents just pick their favourite name, which is completely fine.
Well, I can see your point, because I used to think, “Oh my goodness, don’t name your daughter [name_f]Isla[/name_f]–don’t you know how insanely trendy her name will be in five years’ time?!” But [name_f]Isla[/name_f]'s popularity has slowed down drastically, and it’s definitely not for everyone. I like it a lot, honestly, and love that it reminds me of [name_f]Scotland[/name_f]. My issue with it was that I couldn’t really imagine a little girl actually wearing [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I still really can’t, but it’s grown on me over the years. It’s very dainty and sweet, and if it wasn’t so close to 2 names in my top 5 ([name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]), I would easily consider adding it to my own list.
Yeah, I’m totally over and bored of [name_f]Isla[/name_f]! It’s the 5th most popular girl’s name in the UK and to me it’s just so trendy I can only see dropping next year and becoming another dated name. I find people in the UK jump on name bandwagon’s far too quickly. In 2009 it was the 30th most popular so in four years it made it to the top 5…
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] is one of the names always used with a hyphenated middle name in the UK, for example, [name_f]Isla[/name_f]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f]-[name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f]-[name_u]Rae[/name_u], which makes it even worse to me!
I used to like it, but now I am drawn to longer and more classic names. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] does seem somewhat insubstantial, which is mostly why I don’t care for it.
I love [name_f]Isla[/name_f], sounds so sweet and I love the way it looks. I would never even remotely consider for my own child though! Despite the personal attraction I have to it, in reality its mega trendy and overdone, destined to become dated in a hurry
I like it a lot …honestly I’ve never met a girl named this in real life just a lot of people liking the name on message boards.
I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is a sweet name, but it’s becoming overused. It’s very popular in [name_m]Britain[/name_m].
I’m Canadian and I don’t know a single [name_f]Isla[/name_f]! So to me, it’s not trendy and overused. I can see that it’s quite popular here on Nameberry and in the UK, but it seems so far away. I really like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I think it’s pretty, sweet, different and not as dainty as some other names, while still being feminine and girly.
I’ve always liked [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I do agree that it’s getting a lot of publicity lately though. I think it’s super cute and relatively fresh at least in the sense that there are people who will not have heard it before, unlike [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and whatnot. I still give [name_f]Isla[/name_f] a thumbs-up!
I don’t know anyone named [name_f]Isla[/name_f] but it does seem to be very popular in Nameberry and in the UK.
I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Isla[/name_f], when I see it I just think of the Spanish word for island.
I haven’t anyone named [name_f]Isla[/name_f] so it doesn’t feel trendy or overused to me. I like the name, I think it’s sweet. But I don’t like it enough to use it myself. I would however, love to have a niece with the name.
I voted No on the poll but it’s not a bad name. It’s a solid 5 on a scale of 1-10. It’s okay, though I would choose something different. But I see your point that people who like it seem to REALLY like it. If it makes a person’s top 20 then it’s probably in the top 3.
It was my favourite for years pre-popularity. When it became popular I literally cried. I would never use it now, even though I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and it isn’t nearly as popular here as it is in the UK.
I still think it sounds beautiful though.
I just named my one month old daughter [name_f]Isla[/name_f], so my DH and I obviously love the name. We chose her name because I love the meaning of island, as I love the ocean and it is Scottish and I have Scottish heritage. Plus we both loved the name and we just felt like it was her name, I tried calling her other names while pregnant and they just didn’t fit.
I think [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is quite popular in other places and on Nameberry, however, where I live, southwest US, [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is not popular whatsoever. I’m a teacher and the majority of names for little ones right now are the creative spellings, made up names , boy names on girls, etc.
The only [name_f]Isla[/name_f] I’ve ever even heard of where I live is a woman who my husband’s grandparents knew years ago, and she is no longer living.
While we love the name, as others have said I think people either love it or don’t, and we all have different style and taste in names, which is a good thing.
Yep, completely tired. I can’t see the appeal of [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. It sounds so boring and alone (island, alone in a deserted island…).
I’m not tired of it–I’ve always hated it. I think it’s whiny-sounding, insubstantial, trendy, and pretentious. It’s probably one of my biggest pet peeve names. I met my first [name_m]IRL[/name_m] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] about a month ago, a twelve-year-old girl, but it doesn’t seem to have taken off with babies in my area, thankfully.
Sadly, I also voted “yes” on the poll because I was responding to “are you tired of [name_f]Isla[/name_f]?” and not the actual question. [name_m]Way[/name_m] to go, me.
I had this name on my list years ago, but I’m definitely tired of it. It’s not that I don’t think it’s a gorgeous name, it’s just that I see it cropping up all the time and it doesn’t give me the same feeling it once did.
