I’ve been really loving the name [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] lately for our baby due in [name_u]November[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but I just love the way [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] looks and feels. Maybe it reminds me a bit of how [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] looks so sweet without the literal “sweet” meaning. Anyway, I know that most people prefer the [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] spelling and that [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] would be misspelled of course. But is it a big deal? Anyone out there with an experience of having a name that’s not the most popular spelling?
Personally, I’m a [name_f]Katie[/name_f] that frequently gets other spellings like [name_f]Katy[/name_f] even though [name_f]Katie[/name_f] is the most popular so I’m guessing its not really a big deal. I still have to spell my name out if it’s important for it to be correct.

[name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name is [name_u]John[/name_u] / [name_u]Johnny[/name_u] and it honestly still gets misspelled sometimes. I don’t think it’s that big a deal, honestly. [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] is a fine choice

I know this isn’t what you asked for, but my name is [name_f]Emily[/name_f] which is a very popular name and the most popular spelling and I still get my name misspelled sometimes (usually Emilie). So I think using the spelling you prefer is worth it.

I’m an [name_f]Eryn[/name_f] instead of an [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and I’ve never been deeply bothered by it. Finding keyrings etc was impossible as a kid but most things can be personalised elsewhere now so I doubt it’d ever be an issue now. I had to correct everyone but I never found this an issue nor did it ever bother me, either. [name_f]My[/name_f] two sisters also have differently spelled names and none of us have been bothered and in fact, we love how our names are spelt differently to the norm!
I hope this helps! Go with [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]!

Truly, almost every name gets misspelled. As long as it’s tasteful (for example, in my opinion Ashleigh is not very taseful compared to Ashley), I don’t think an unusual spelling is a big deal! My name is Hazel, and people have spelt it Hazle, as well as mistook it for Hailey and even Angel. It happens to the best of names!
PS - Lucie is such a cute name! Love that you enjoy the French spelling.

i have the equivalent of this! i don’t like it much & would prefer the other spelling but it’s not a huge problem. i have had some issues with taxes & transcripts, though - just something to consider.

I used to have a name that was “creatively” spelled and I’ll level with you, I hated it. Nobody ever spelled it or pronounced it correctly, I had to constantly correct everyone and I also felt like people were making assumptions about me based on my “weird” name.
However, I don’t think you’ll have the same issues with [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]. It might not be the most common spelling, but it isn’t so unusual that it’s going to be hard for people to understand. Many names are spelled with an “ie” rather than a “y” or vice versa. I actually went to school with someone called [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] and at the time I never even realised that it wasn’t the traditional spelling. Worst comes to worst, it may be occasionally irritating for her to have to correct people, but ultimately I think you’ll probably be fine. I would advise differently if you were going for “Luicyie” or something less intuitive like that.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is a rare spelling of a common name (think ≈150 people worldwide since 1880). People do not get it at all. I go by a nickname because of this. In school, one teacher never got my name after a year of being in her class, and another tried to give me another name altogether because she hated my name. As an adult, I worked with the same people for 6 years and they still didn’t know my name. Most of my family can’t even spell my name.
Although [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] would certainly be easier than my name, I would hesitate to use a name with a different/unique spelling unless it was well established and had a substantial history of use.
