This year at my school, we got a student from Lithuania, of all places! (I live in [name]Texas[/name], by the way.) His names is Pijus and is pronounced like “pews” (or [name]Hugh[/name], but plural and with a P). Has anyone ever heard of this before? I know it isn’t listed on this website. [name]Just[/name] curious about thoughts.

The way you say Pijus “pews” reminds me of the entry I made for “most unusual boys names” - Dariush prn dahr-yoosh. He’s from the Middle [name]East[/name], but it’s so obvious once I wrote it down, it is like [name]Darius[/name] - with an accent.
Lithuania may be one of those countries that uses a j as more a y-sound. Like some Scandinavian languages - fjord or even Kjersten (which is all like [name]Keer[/name]-sten, except I imagine it is more like Kyeer-sten, a slight difference - more like an emphasis).

Yes, the J is generally pronounced Y in Lithuania. So that’s the jist. Similarly to my name in the UK gets hassle, because people have to pronounce all the letters! People rarely seem to understand, and think my parents added the J in there to make it look cool, but i guess some people are crazy. xD
Someone mentioned [name]Pius[/name] - that’s what it reminds me of (py-us). My fiance has two family members with this name (and I think one of them was married in… not a very common name to have two of them in your family! Haha). But that’s the closest name I know of. The name also doesn’t come up with any results on Behind the Name.
