Arabella, Aurora, Ariane

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

Thank you for indulging me with [name_m]Ari[/name_m], I’m a stereotypical overthinker. I think I’ve narrowed my options down to 3, hoping to get your thoughts on your preference for me and maybe also some middle name suggestions for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] or Ariane/Arianne (but I’ll take what you’re willing to give lol).

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

Summary

She feels like the easiest decision, because I have a combo for her I love (Arabella [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] Jane) that honors my grandma. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother loved purple and especially lilacs, so [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] just feels like a warm hug from her. I’m just not sure I love her more than my top 2 (Isobel and Adele).

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

Summary

Maybe the most meaningful first name, I love the aurora borealis and Aurora’s “new dawn” meaning is one I really identify with given my mental health struggles. I keep taking her off my list because I can’t find a combo; I’ve contemplated [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] but she doesn’t feel right.

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] (or maybe [name_f]Arianne[/name_f])

Summary

This is historically my favorite [name_m]Ari[/name_m] name, I love her meaning and she was definitely a “love at first sight” name. I feel like this is the easiest to use if I use [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] first, but for several years I just fell out of love with her. I don’t have a combo for her either but I’ve been loving rarer floral names with her (Ariane [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Larkspur[/name_f], [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] Wisteria) and [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].

Which stylistically do you think works best with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], and [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

Thank you!

I think Aurora goes best with Claire (stylistically) and Isobel, because the 2 “bel” sounds of Isobel/Arabella are a bit much. But, like the rest (Evangeline, Vera, Adele) Arabella has a familiar sound while being just a tad bit different, and feels sort of romantic. I also think your combo for her is really gorgeous! And tbh I’d nickname an Aurora “Auri”, not “Ari”

Ariane I’m admittedly biased against because I just think of the word “aryan”

I apologise in advance that this became a lengthy ramble

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is gorgeous - elegant and regal, but also sweet and sassy - and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has such a cosy feel!
I think it goes well stylistically with your set - especially with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]. That said, I do feel that only some could work together in one set, if that makes sense?

So, these would work for me:

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f]

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] (matchy but kind of liking it here :person_shrugging: and with nn [name_m]Ari[/name_m], it doesn’t bother me too much)

[name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]

However, these ones wouldn’t:

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] (I think [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] feels like [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] blended)

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] / [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] / [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (Claire loses any sparkle for me)

And I think that might be what gives me pause over [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] as the one is that I struggle with her in am actual sibset with your top two - and with a name I associate heavily with your list?

Still, I guess it depends on whether you want to imagine each name on your list as a sister to all the other names - because if not, then [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is an absolute delight (and probably my fave option out of the three)

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

Sparkling, meaningful, and strong - [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is one of those that, like [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], manages to maintain its magic regardless of popularity, that has multiple associations without feeling too tied to any of them, and is pleasing to look at.

And I suppose - if you go for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] ‘Ari’, it gives you the opportunity to really focus on finding a combo for sweet [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] that feels right.

I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] works on your list!

Some combos:

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Simone[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f] [name_f]Leilani[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] [name_f]Tessan[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lisette[/name_f] [name_f]Elva[/name_f]

I’ve done two middle combos, but feel free to cut out the second if you want an honor in there

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f]

How is [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] said? A-ree-ah-nee? A-ree-ann? a-ree-ahn?

Aesthetically and style wise, this is an unexpected, elegant choice, familiar yet distinctive, a bit like [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] are.
It does, admittedly, remind me a bit of an unpleasant word - but could I get over that, knowing its a [name_f]French[/name_f] name and equally being okay with [name_f]Arianell[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariana[/name_f]? Probably to be honest.

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f], [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f], [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Larkspur[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] are all lovely!!

Inspired by those:

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Keziah[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Miranda[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Delphinium[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Celandine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Lurlene[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Lovelace[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fenella[/name_f] / [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Moselle[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] to Ariane/Arianne in your list. Although I think [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Larkspur[/name_f] is awesome.

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] – I love this name, she’s so elegant and musical! The combo [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous as well, especially with the homage to your grandmother. In general, this one is definitely my personal favorite “Ari” name.
With your other names, I think [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] stylistically matches super well with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] because of their regal but soft feel, and she sounds fine with [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but maybe outshines her a little (maybe you could do [name_f]Clarimond[/name_f] or [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] here, with the nicknames [name_m]Ari[/name_m] & Claire?). The repetition of the “ell” sound makes [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] a little too similar to [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] & [name_f]Adele[/name_f] for me (especially if they’re all in one sibset). However, if you just had an [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] & [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], who went by [name_m]Ari[/name_m] & [name_f]Issy[/name_f] primarily, I don’t think I’d mind it too much – the connection might be cute for sisters?

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] – Another beautiful choice with great meaning! [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] definitely fits stylistically with all of your other names (especially Evangeline!), so that’s definitely a plus. Some middle name ideas…
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Faith[/name_f] (a lovely meaning – blind faith in the dawn!)
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Sigrid[/name_f] [name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] – This feels like a lovely, more mystical twist on [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] – so princess-y but down to earth and friendly as well! I think this name is definitely the best compromise between all your other names and really balances them all out, aligning with the simplicity of [name_f]Claire[/name_f] but also matching the romanticism of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. I also think this choice is the least stretchy way to get to Ari… and I actually think this one is my favorite for you!!
Some middle name combos… I’m loving the floral route here (Ariane [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] is so dreamy!), but I’ve included some other suggestions too:
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Lovejoy[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Celestia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Forsythia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Violetta[/name_f]

Overall, my favorite for you is definitely [name_f]Ariane[/name_f], with [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] as a close runner up! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!

hahaha no this was helpful! I feel like these days, you and @eagleeyes knows my style best and sinks through my stubborn brain the most.

Summary

That’s very fair about [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], and I agree that [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] are all way too much for one sibset lol. tbh for years I’ve been questioning [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] as my true favorite, I feel like I’d consider [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], or [name_f]Vera[/name_f] more seriously were I to find out I was expecting a daughter today… but I’ve loved her so long I can’t seem to truly tell myself she’s not my favorite anymore! Which is why I think I’m more open to considering [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] now when I really wouldn’t have in the past. tbh at this point who knows if I’ll get to use any of these, and if so, surely not all of them! But it is nice to dream, and I met an [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] whilst on holiday last month so it’s easier for me to feel like I could have an [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] of my own.

[name_f]My[/name_f] other hesitation with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is that it’s currently my middle for Isobel… so I feel like that means I should really just go for Ariane/Arianne but I can’t seem to tell my heart that convincingly. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is nice! I’ve also always liked [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f] but I feel like these days it wouldn’t feel so special. Which is why I considered [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] Vivi… but I don’t love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] + [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] + [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. But if not [name_f]Joy[/name_f], I’m not sure what I’d use instead.

And the one [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] I’ve come across said it like air-ee-anne, so that’s how I say it in my head. There may be a couple valid ones, but that’s what I default to. I think are-ee-ahn is probably also valid but anyways. I’m intrigued by [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fenella[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f]! [name_m]Or[/name_m] even something like [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f]. [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Celandine[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] are intriguing too!

@daisydarcy - thank you! [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is my default nn for Isobel… but tbh I’m not 100% sure I’m keeping [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] long-term… it’s been my favorite girls’ name for almost 15 years now but lately she’s lost some of her lustre… which is the only reason I’m contemplating [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], really. I didn’t really give her, [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], or [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] a shot in the past. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] is intriguing, and I also like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Siri[/name_f] in theory… maybe I just need something cutesy like [name_f]Siri[/name_f] or [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]? lol.

I was also thinking [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] might be the best fit with my other favorites - I like that she feels like she has equal parts [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]? But I could also see her with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_f]Vera[/name_f]. I like a lot of the floral combos but I just don’t know that I like them as much as [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] yet. [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Forsythia[/name_f] is intriguing, and I’ve also been loving [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] lately so I’d consider [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. And [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]! There’s a very special [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] in my life, I would consider [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] Sabine/Sabina to honor her.

Would love to hear any more thoughts!

Stylistically I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] fits with the other girls names

But I love [name_f]Arianne[/name_f] !

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is growing on me and I feel like that zippy, sweet sound is right after [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. I will ponder on it! Unless…Aurora [name_f]Tzippy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]?

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Fiammetta[/name_f]! That is stunning!

Aww, I’m honored to hear that and glad I can help :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I’m also glad you tagged me, or this thread might have slipped past me!

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and love the combo [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I think she works very well stylistically with your other names. However, I wouldn’t use her with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] because of the shared bel/bella ending.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] works perfectly with your names! She feels current and stylish, but with a long history. She’s maybe a little trendier feeling than your other names, but not in a bad way. I like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], I think she’s so bright and fun and summery. But if you’re not set on her, maybe…

[name_f]Ariane[/name_f] / [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]
I like this name, but I would (maybe incorrectly ) pronounce the two spellings differently (ahh-ree-AHN versus are-ee-ANN). I think they may have spelling and pronunciation issues that [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] wouldn’t, which isn’t a deal breaker (my own name, as you know, has multiple spellings and pronunciations, and that doesn’t bother me!) but I do think it makes it stand out from the rest of your list which is more familiar in the US. I do know an [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] in the US, but if I didn’t know her I’m not sure I’d be familiar with the name. I love [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] from your list! Some more ideas could be:

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is a very close second, though, and [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] does work as well. (my apologies for this completely unhelpful analysis of “they all work”, haha)

I love [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], what a beautiful combo :purple_heart: The meaning behind it makes it all the more perfect. I think stylistically it fits in really well, but the similar sounds with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] would bother me a little.

I absolutely love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - love the meaning, love the sound, love the personal connection for you, love the flow with each of the other names, love the look of the name written down. This feels like a perfect fit. I do feel like [name_m]Ari[/name_m] is a more intuitive nickname for [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] than [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], but it still works for [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].

Some middle name ideas:
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]June[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Snowdrop[/name_f] (ok definitely a wildcard !! It popped into my head and I kind of love it :see_no_evil: I looked up the symbolism - as one of the first flowers of spring it symbolises new beginnings, hope, rebirth and the ability to overcome challenges :white_heart: )
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Eirlys[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (I looked up names that mean snowdrop  I think [name_f]Eirlys[/name_f] sounds beautiful with Aurora)
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Esti[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Camille[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Cicely[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Noemie[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Olwyn[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (if you’re considering replacing [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], maybe you could switch them around and still keep her in the middle? I think it still flows nicely :white_heart: )

I still love [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Larkspur[/name_f]! I wouldn’t have thought of the ‘air-ee-anne’ pronunciation, so maybe that could cause some confusion, but it’s easy to correct. I think [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] fits in really well, especially with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f]! They are stunning together.

I love them all, but [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is my favourite option :purple_heart:

Thank you, @Ehrob1, @Greyblue, @EagleEyes, and @lasairfhiona! I am 99% sure at this point that I’ve eliminated [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - she’s very meaningful to me but she just didn’t feel as right as [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and Ariane/Arianne do right now. So I think it’s down to two, [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and Ariane/Arianne [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] something (tossing about [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] - I think something short and sweet would be good since [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] is already 7 syllables, lol!). I’ll probably sit on both names for a while and see which one sticks. Today I’m leaning toward [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], but we’ll see with time which one wins out.

(@Greyblue - for what it’s worth, [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Tzippy[/name_f] is absolutely fascinating and if I was really into [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], I probably would have considered her. I love Hebrew names with Aurora!)

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is my favourite.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is also very pretty.
Fave combos: [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] ( I think [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] would be prefect)

Thanks! I’m trying out both [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] for now… I really like both and could see me using either. I love [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] too but she doesn’t feel as right as [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Ariane[/name_f] right now. Maybe with time that will change?
