Archer: Yay or Nay?

So yesterday I posted about how my wife and I were considering the name [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] for our son who is going to be born some time in the next 2-3 days. We have since moved from [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] to [name_m]Archer[/name_m] (my wife wasn’t a big fan of “[name_m]Artie[/name_m],” but she likes “[name_m]Archie[/name_m]”).

Our last name is $o.mer$

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] $o.mer$. Thoughts? Suggestions? Great idea? Terrible idea? Any feedback would be much appreciated, and thanks so much to all those who replied to my post yesterday. Your input was very valuable.

I really like [name_m]Archer[/name_m] Somers. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] has been growing on me lately, and the nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is great. Congrats on soon to be here little boy.

I love [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. It’s edgy, but not unheard of. It’s actually one my DH and I are considering if ours is a boy. I also love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], for the record.

I’m not a fan at all of the “er” names ([name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] etc). I feel they are too trendy and don’t convey the strength that the handsome [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] does. Any other options on your list?

I like [name_m]Archer[/name_m].
Definitely not as classic as [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] but it’s a good name.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t give him an S middle name

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is adorable, and while I really love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], I would also love to meet a little boy named [name_m]Archer[/name_m]

I love [name_m]Archer[/name_m]! The er’s in both names are a bit repetitive, but it doesn’t sound bad.

I really don’t like occupation names. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is a more timeless and handsome name in my opinion. I’ve seen a couple people online who know an [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] who goes by [name_m]Archie[/name_m] so that could be a possibility. Depending on where you live I think [name_m]Archie[/name_m] could be used as a stand alone name.

I am not really a fan of [name_m]Archer[/name_m] just because I feel like it’s a name that will be dated in the future. It’s not super popular right now, in fact it’s less popular than [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (404 vs 355), but it has had such a huge spike it seems very trendy. And I prefer something more classic. I do think [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is cute and I don’t mind [name_m]Archer[/name_m] just as a name in itself. The flow with your last name isn’t the greatest with [name_m]Archer[/name_m] or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], but I don’t think it would be a deal breaker.

I really like [name_m]Archer[/name_m], and I adore [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I agree that it may fall into the “trendy” bucket but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it. It’s hip and cool in a classic kind of way. Good luck!

I really like the name [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. It’s not the sort of style I would typically go for but I really do think it’s a cute name especially with [name_m]Archie[/name_m] for a nickname.

I can see why some people like it, but I’m really not a fan at all.

My 2-year-old nephew’s name is [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. We call him A.J.

I love [name_m]Archer[/name_m], though it is very trendy and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it in the Top 100. That said, [name_m]Archer[/name_m] $omer$ is very heavy on the -er sound. Since [name_m]Archer[/name_m] has two hard 'r’s, this might be something to consider.

I actually like the name [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. “Trendy-ness” doesn’t bother me, to be honest. If you love the name, go with it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it’s considered “trendy”.

I agree with the last poster, I could see it getting even more popular. But it is a great name and I do love it.

I love Archer and Archie . It’s on my list and I know a little archer as well . On the trendiness its top 100 in Australia and Archie is gaining popularity here as well

I don’t see the appeal of [name_m]Archer[/name_m] at all. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is so much nicer, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. It’s a classic but still unusual and fresh on a baby. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] just feels trendy.

[name_m]Archer[/name_m] is so cool! I love it.
