Definitely keep [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]! Its by far my favourite full name for [name_m]Archie[/name_m]! I love the connection with the comic a lot.

Personally I prefer just [name_m]Archie[/name_m] on its own, or if I had to pick a full name, I’d choose [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. But [name_m]Archer[/name_m] doesn’t seem to be the one for you, in which case, I’d say stick with [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is lovely on it’s own and am not the hugest fan of either [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] or [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. My personal favourite long form would be [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (but I totally get that [name_m]Archie[/name_m] isn’t an intuitive nickname). Of your two options, I think [name_m]Archer[/name_m] is considerably more usable, but it does seem as though you genuinely love [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] - so [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] gets my vote.

As someone with an [name_m]Archimedes[/name_m] nn [name_m]Archie[/name_m], stick with what you love! We got negative comments as well during my pregnancy, but have had nothing but compliments (or silence from previous naysayers) since he was born. If you love [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], use it!

Besides that, [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] (and maybe [name_m]Archer[/name_m]) are the most intuitive choices for [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. If we don’t introduce my son to someone new by his full name, they most frequently assume it’s [name_m]Archibald[/name_m].

Thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate it.

I love your sons name! I’m happy for the fact that you used a name you loved for your baby and didn’t let anyone get to you. I’m surprised that people assumed your [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] because down here, most [name_m]Archie[/name_m]’s are just [name_m]Archie[/name_m] but I guess it depends on where you live.

Thank you so much for the feedback

I live on the west coast of the US and [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is only just starting to get some traction over here. I haven’t met any others my son’s age and most people I talk to only know elderly men who go by [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. In general nicknames as given names aren’t as popular in my area as they are other places, so I think that’s a big reason why people immediately think [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]. It’s wild how diverse naming trends are by region.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], that probably explains it. I live in the UK so most of the [name_m]Archie[/name_m]’s I do meet - which aren’t that many surprisingly - are just [name_m]Archie[/name_m], which I personally don’t like. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I bring up [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], my family and friends are just like “thats awful, you’re not naming your son that”, I’m not even pregnant lol. [name_m]Britain[/name_m] are known for having their little [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]’s, [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]’s, [name_m]Harry[/name_m]’s and so on so it’s a shock when I bring up more unusual longer forms of the names I love.

[name_m]Archie[/name_m] is super cute! It can definitely stand on its own, though I also prefer it as a nickname.
You should definitely go with your heart, because people’s opinions change way easier than regret. So if you’re loving on [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], go for it!
I personally love [name_m]Archer[/name_m], but if you think it’s violent, definitely don’t go there (that’s how I feel about [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], even if you like the sound, if you don’t agree with the meaning / use of the name, don’t do it)
Archard is interesting, and written it looks nice. However, saying it out loud, I think people will mishear it as [name_m]Archer[/name_m], especially since it’s rising in popularity.
[name_m]Archimedes[/name_m] - I leave it to the Mrs. with the little [name_m]Archimedes[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].

GL!

Thanks for all the help guys! I think I’m just gonna have to face people disliking my favourite name because I just love it too much to just forget about it.

Thanks again!

I like just [name_m]Archie[/name_m] on it’s own. But I voted for [name_m]Archer[/name_m]. I don’t like the ‘bald’ in [name_m]Archibald[/name_m].
