My usual style of girl names is uber feminine i.e [name]Rose[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Alice[/name], Esmé (my Dd)… but then I discovered [name]Arden[/name].
It feels very “tom boy” next to Esmé and borders on a made up sound (I love Shakespearian names but it seems more of a stretch with [name]Arden[/name]).
BUT my Dh really likes this name. Does it fit well with the other kids- [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Evan[/name] and Esmé [name]Juliet[/name]?
I chose Esmé so it might be nice to let Dh have his way this time around since there are very few girl names he likes.
[name]Arden[/name] [name]Clara[/name]
[name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name]
[name]Arden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] (I don’t know if Dh will go for this middle but I think its lovely)
I like [name]Arden[/name]. It’s definitely a lot different than [name]Esme[/name], but sibsets are overrated in my book I like [name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] the best!
I like [name]Arden[/name] quite a bit; it sounds so fiery and passionate, probably because it’s similar to “ardent.” My favorite of your combos is [name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name], but [name]Arden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] is pretty too.
I actually think Esmé and [name]Arden[/name] are very well matched for sisters. I’ve never thought of Esmé as being an ultra-feminine name, since it has a history of masculine usage, and [name]Arden[/name] has the feminine association of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Arden[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names strike a good balance.
[name]Arden[/name] is one of the few unisex names I like on a girl. [name]Samuel[/name], Esmé and [name]Arden[/name] would be fine together. As the pp stated, Esmé was a boys name in the 1500’s (Esmé [name]Stuart[/name] was the [name]Duke[/name] of [name]Lennox[/name]). [name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] is pretty. Here are some other suggestions.
A close friend of mine considered [name]Arden[/name] a few years back when she was pregnant. NO [name]ONE[/name] liked it! [name]Every[/name] time someone asked me if they had a name picked out I said yes they are naming her [name]Arden[/name]. [name]Every[/name] single time the person I was talking to made a face and made some sort of comment about how not pretty it was. They ended up changing the name for their little girl, however not due to people not liking it, it was because someone made a comment on her nickname being [name]Ardi[/name]…so they both decided they wanted to avoid that!
I’m not really a fan of [name]Arden[/name], to me there is nothing feminine about it. Especially next to Esmé, I might assume [name]Arden[/name] was a boy. What about using it as a middle name?
As someone else mentioned, when I hear [name]Arden[/name], I almost automatically think of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Arden[/name], so I consider it a girls name. Maybe not the most feminine of names, but I think it works. And I really like [name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name].
I agree with the others that [name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] is a nice choice. I’m usually not crazy about unisex names, but I think [name]Arden[/name] works as girl’s name.
I like the name [name]Arden[/name]. I went to school with a girl named [name]Arden[/name] and always thought her name was pretty and unique without being too “out there.” [name]Arden[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] flows very nicely.
I love [name]Arden[/name] on a girl! I think it looks great with the other siblings. My favorite combo would probably be [name]Arden[/name] [name]Clara[/name].
I adore [name]Arden[/name] and think it works wonderfully with your siblings! [name]Arden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name], for an extra Shakespearean punch?
[name]Arden[/name] is one of very few “unisex” names that I love and prefer on a little. My favourite girls names are very frilly, while the names on my boys list tend to be a little softer ([name]Isaac[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Micah[/name], [name]Aubrey[/name] etc). However, a long time back I had a dream that I had three little girls named [name]Arden[/name], [name]Darby[/name] & [name]Sutton[/name], and a little later another girl named [name]Greer[/name]. Now still to this day they are the only “unisex” names I’d ever consider for a girl (Oh and [name]Peyton[/name] too but more of a GP due to [name]One[/name] Tree [name]Hill[/name]).
I think [name]Arden[/name] would work for a boy or a girl but whenever I sa the name I do automatically picture a little blonde girl.
[name]Samuel[/name], [name]Esme[/name] & [name]Arden[/name] would be fine as a sibet - I don’t think your children’s names fit one particular style so I wouldn’t worry. [name]Samuel[/name] is a classic, [name]Esme[/name] feels a little more modern and [name]Arden[/name] a little unisex but none really match up so it shouldn’t matter too much.
I love [name]Arden[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] of the ones you have listed!
Thanks for the comments! I guess its the ending sounds of the names that make them feel more or less feminine for me. A name ending in “[name]May[/name]” (Esmé) just sounds more feminine to me than a name ending in EN ([name]Caden[/name], [name]Jaylen[/name], [name]Owen[/name] etc.). I realize Esmé was originally a male name as well and that we chose the masculine spelling- but to me at least, it seems all girl. Especially since my Esmé really is all into pink, purses, shoes, ballet, and dolls. Perhaps I’m biased now.
I don’t know, I guess I still have a hard time actually committing to [name]Arden[/name] even with a frilly middle name. I think it COULD work but I’m still a little concerned. Maybe it is still too “out there” for most people although it has a familiar sound. I could totally see my family hating it but since we don’t share our names ahead of time it would be hard to know until its too late. No one liked Esmé at first either though. So thanks for letting me try it out on you all.
