I’ve seen such varying etymology on the name, yet have never met a child named [name_u]Arden[/name_u] to help my basing. Which gender would you be more inclined to use it on? What do you think of the name?
I’ve only encountered it used on a girl, so for me, it is a girls name. I also associated it with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] makeup, which strengthens the girl connection.
Ditto on both counts.
I prefer it on a girl.
I prefer it on a girl
I’ve always thought of it as a girl’s name (and like it quite a lot!)
I love the word ardor, so when I first read it in a baby book, I remember it being from the girls section. Then in high school I met a girl whose middle name was [name_u]Arden[/name_u]. So it’s always been girl for me. But now that you mention it, it wouldn’t make a bad boys name.
My rule is if it is originally a surname (which [name_u]Arden[/name_u] is) I’d only use it for a boy. For a boy it’d be okay but it’s a very simple name.
I love [name_u]Arden[/name_u] and I see it as a girls name. I prefer the spelling [name_f]Ardyn[/name_f] though.
To me, it’s a boy name, as I know a little boy about 5 or 6 years old named [name_u]Arden[/name_u]. (His older sister is named [name_f]Morag[/name_f]!) Although, because of the [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] connection, I can see it on a girl too.
It’s one of my favourite names on a girl, but I could absolutely still see it on a boy.
I would say boy, but because of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u] I wouldn’t rule it out for a girl.
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] is one of my faves and it’s 100% unisex in my book. But, since girls are taking so many names, I’d be more intrigued by a male [name_u]Arden[/name_u]
I’ve only heard it used for a girl, but it does sound kind of masculine.
I would definitely only use this for a girl.
It has a masculine sound to me.
