I’m 21 weeks pregnant and we’ve just found out we’re having a baby girl, hurrah!! We’ve always had the name [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] picked out for a girl but recently we’ve been toying with adding [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] in there too. We really love [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and the meaning of it as well but is it a bit too much to have 2 middle names?
Also, calling her [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] would give her the initials DAMT, would the DAM bit be enough to put you off or am I looking into it too far?
We also keep thinking about if we ever have another girl, in that case we may be disappointed that we’d already used [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and hadn’t save it for her but on the other hand, we may not have another girl and end up being disappointed that we don’t get to use it at all!
Please give me your thoughts, I’d really appreciate it!
First of all, I just want to say that I love [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] as a first name! So sweet!
I don’t think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is too much. It’s a bit of a mouthful when you say it out loud, but I doubt you’re going to have to do that often anyway! DAM aren’t bad initials, it’s not like dam is an offensive word. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it was, people rarely ever use their intials.
If you want the combo to be even one syllable shorter you could use [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f].
I’ve wanted to give our last two children two middle names but my husband said it didn’t seem right since our first three only had one middle name each lol.
I really like [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f]. Ignore the initials.
Next time you have a daughter, if you have a daughter, you might not like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]. But I’m not saying you’ll hate your decision you made previously, just that personal taste change. Use it now, next time you’ll find another name that put a smile on your face.
TBH, [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is lovely combo, it’s worth to use it now and deal with lack of name choices later.
No, I don’t think two middles is too many. I’m planning to use two as well. If the initials bother you, maybe you could swap the middles and make it [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] instead?
I don’t think it is too much, but I also think it depends on the names. Some people string together long, fanciful names that just sound like either royalty or cartoon characters.
That said, I love the name you’ve chosen! The flow and style is great! The initials don’t seem bothersome. DAM is different than DAMN. As far as using [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] now or saving it, I think you should just use it. As you said, you may not have another daughter, and then you’ll never have gotten to use the name. There are tons of other amazing girl names out there that you could choose from, should you have another girl, and everyone here would love to help you, should you cross that bridge!
I think whether or not you use two middle names has to do with personal preference. I know people who have two middles and there are plenty of people on here that like double middle names. I am one of the people who do not like two middle names, mainly because I never understood the point of a double middle and I haven’t found to many combos that don’t sound like a mouthful when you say the complete name (last name included). It also tends to read to me like the parents couldn’t decide so they used both. (I know that isn’t always the case.)
That said, I think Dorothy Arabella Maud is a fine name. Pretty as both Dorothy Arabella and Dorothy Maud as well. I would be a little concerned with her initials though since the DAM will be with her even if her last name changes when she’s older. Although DAM could be taken as a good thing too depending on the context lol.
With regards to regretting using Arabella on this child,I don’t think you will. Name styles change often you might find you have a new favorite by the time you welcome a second daughter. I would think about, if you do decide to give your daughter two middles, if your future kids will also have two, I know it bugs some people if their kids names don’t match but for others it doesn’t so, it’s just a thought.
