My friend’s daughter is named [name]Sasha[/name] for her father’s best friend [name]Ashley[/name] who died when they were younger and her mother’s cousin [name]Sarah[/name] and I think it’s a really great name and connection that it has meaning but is also a new name so [name]Sash[/name] doesn’t feel like she would have anything to live up to if she had been named [name]Sarah[/name]-[name]Ashley[/name]
I’ll be the desenting vote and say that I’m not a fan of the smoosh. I’d go with 2 middle names or use them on different children or use one as a first name and the other as a middle.
I know an Aaralyn, pronounced how I’d guess you’d pronounce Erilyn. For a mn it’s not bad, but I wouldn’t use it as a fn.
Depends on the names in the mash up and the reasoning behind doing it. Also, for a middle name, I think they are fine.
Erilyn actually sounds nice. Kind of makes me think of a elfish name.
I think it’s too much of a generalization to say that I hate all smoosh names (I have’nt heard them all, how can I?) but I dislike the majority that I’ve heard. A previous poster said that someone they knew named their daughter [name]Sasha[/name] because it was for two people named [name]Sara[/name] and [name]Ashley[/name]. I think [name]Sasha[/name] is a great example of a smoosh name that works. Rebbeccalyn? Not so much. It depends. But I generally don’t like most of them.

I can forgive just about anything if it has a lovely meaning like Erilyn does for you. And really, it doesn’t seem “made-up” or “smushed together”. It sounds like a perfectly real, “actual” name. I think it’s a nice way to honor two special women in your life.
Erilyn sounds pretty. I don’t hate smush names- remember, a long time ago, gorgeous names like [name]Annamarie[/name] and [name]Annabelle[/name] might have been considered smush names.
[name]How[/name] do you say this? “[name]Anne[/name]-vee ehv” or “[name]Anna[/name] veev”?
I love many established/recognized “smush names”, e.g. [name]Annemarie[/name], [name]Annelise[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name]. As for Erilyn, it looks and sounds fine but since I’m not fond of the name [name]Erin[/name] I don’t particuarly like it. And if has meaning, go for it!
@lizalee [name]Sasha[/name] isn’t actually a smoosh name. I mean in the case of your friends they combined two names to create an already existing name. [name]Sasha[/name] is a russian diminutive form of [name]Alexander[/name]/a depending on gender -> traditionally used for boys but is frequently used for girls.
Reenesme for example is a very prominent smoosh name. [name]Stephanie[/name] Meyers literally took two names and created a name that didn’t exist, not only in spelling but in pronunciation either. I think it’s is names like this when people start having huge issues with the smoosh factor.
I really like the sound of Erilyn, but not so hot about how it’s spelled. It looks made up. It would be much more usable in the first name slot for me if it was maybe Arolen, Erolyn, ect.
oh I understand [name]Sasha[/name] is traditionally a boys name in Russian as a nickname for [name]Alexander[/name] and that it’s a real name not a smoosh but in the case of my friend it is, like my friend [name]Rella[/name] is actually named [name]Rachel[/name]-[name]Ella[/name] but when she was born her brother said [name]Rella[/name] was better cause it took less time to say [name]Rella[/name] is a real name but in this case a smoosh in real life I don’t really know any smoosh names in the traditional sense
I don’t like smush names at all, I just think there are other ways of honouring people than smushing some names together. I guess it’s acceptable as a middle name because it will rarely be seen.
Something like [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Erin[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] would be fine, or [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Erica[/name] [name]Lynn[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Erin[/name] [name]Linnea[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Erin[/name] [name]Linden[/name]?
I guess I’d work with the names and see what other alternatives there are than smush 2 names together. Plus, you can honour somebody in so many different ways than just use there names.
I still love Erilyn but I decided to go with [name]Erin[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] after all so each name would have its own spot
I prefer Arolyn.
I am loving the [name]Erin[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] suggestion!
_______ [name]Erin[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] is gorgeous but I love [name]Erin[/name] [name]Linnea[/name] as a full name itself! I think [name]Erin[/name] is gorgeous & [name]Linnea[/name] just has more appeal/feels more special than [name]Lynn[/name] (which is nice, but plain imo)
Erilyn sounds lovely and it sounds like a legit name…unlike [name]Renesmee[/name] (lookin’ at you, [name]Stephenie[/name] Meyers O.O )
