Are alliterative names okay?

So I’m in love with H names but my last name is Hegarty. I’ve been in love with [name]Hudson[/name] and [name]Hadley[/name], are these too much with my last name?

I think alliterative names are great, and I plan to use some myself. [name]Just[/name] make sure the rhythm sounds okay. I think it looks distinguished.

I think they can work, occasionally (and my cat has one!). But would sound better with an obvious forename rather than a transferred-surname-as-forename, if you get me?

With my maiden name I was MMM and I always loved it. Alliteration can work as long as the names don’t sound too similar. I think [name]Hudson[/name] Hegarty is perfect!

I love alliterations, except hard Cs like [name]Cameron[/name] [name]Clark[/name]- sounds like you’re coughing up a furball

I have an alliterative name and I love it! [name]Both[/name] my first and last name start with K and end with N. Same number of syllables, too. I think it’s great, the only ones I don’t necessarily like are starting with letters P and B, the first because of embarrassing initials (PP) and a B alliteration (like [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Bailey[/name]) sounds too stumbly to me.

ETA: Also, K initials are sometimes not fun because people ask me all the time if my middle initial is also K… KKK. It’s actually A, but that’s generally the first thing people ask me when they see my name written down is “What’s your middle initial?” Gets annoying.

I think [name]Hudson[/name] Hegarty is fine, quite handsome actually  But [name]Hadley[/name] is too much, as the beginning and end sounds are the same as Hegarty. On principle I see nothing wrong with alliterative names as long as the names don’t actually sound similar.

I think alliterative names are fun, even charming, unless first and last name sound too similar.

I think it can work nicely… unless it’s a bit much like [name]John[/name] [name]Johnson[/name], [name]James[/name] [name]Jameson[/name], etc…

Some alliteration names are too much! I know someone naming her daughter [name]Lexus[/name] [name]Lynn[/name] [name]Linden[/name], I mean come on!
But [name]Hudson[/name] Hagerty is not bad at all

I love them. My name is alliterative and I’ve always gotten compliments on it. Go for it if you like it!

I like alliterative names as long as they don’t sound like tongue twisters. I think [name]Huxley[/name] would be fine with your last name.

I think alliterative names are either something you like or don’t. The question isn’t whether you can find other people that love the alliteration but whether you do. My husband and I tend to dislike them but I have been trying to convince both of us to change our mind as our favorite boy and girl names both start with a “t” like our last name. This has been a hard and somewhat futile task.

So my advice would be to set aside your specific names because your bias in favor of them tends to blur your judgement. Look at other people’s posts and see what your reaction is when they suggest names. For me that’s been the best gauge of whether I like alliterative names which is ultimately what it comes down to. For me if you had created a poll and listed 2 possible names, one that was alliterative and one that wasn’t I would tend to vote for the non-alliterative one. But other people would pick the alliterative one because they find them snappy, memorable, distinguished, etc. Again what matters is how would you vote on someone else’s poll.

It’s not a true representation but my name goes LLMM & it’s always worked for me, I just think it depends on the names not that they match letters, if you love the names and you feel they work/flow (I do with the two choices you offered) then go for it and don’t worry

I like them, assuming the initials aren’t SS or KKK. AA would be pretty unfortunately too.

I would, however, not use a name that had the same initial as the last name AND the same last sound. For you, I would say [name]Hudson[/name] is a lot better than [name]Hadley[/name]. If your last name was [name]Harrison[/name], it would go the other way, [name]Hadley[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] is much nicer than [name]Hudson[/name] [name]Harrison[/name].

JMO.

alliterative names are, like, the best thing you can do for your kid. they sound cool, easy to remember etc. just as long as the names aren’t too similar, or else you’ll get tongue tied.

Yeah [name]Hadley[/name] Hegarty was the one I was on the fence about. Oh well.

I like [name]Hadley[/name] Hagarty I think it’s sweet

I think the only problem with doing the alliteration is that you’ll have to do it for your next kid too otherwise it’s just odd…

I think as long as both names have different sounds it’s actually quite cool.
For example:
[name]Lauren[/name] [name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Jessica[/name] [name]Jones[/name]

Whereas
Ben Beck sounds awful because the first syllable makes the same sound in both names.

Also,I disagree with the pp who said of you use an alliterative now,all your other children would have to have one. Both the girls names I used as an example are real girls I’ve known and their siblings didn’t have alliterative names. I think it would be really weird to give ALL your children’s alliterative names.
