[name]Merlin[/name]
[name]Ambrose[/name]
[name]Oswin[/name]
[name]Percival[/name] (Or just [name]Percy[/name])
[name]Laurent[/name]
[name]Darcy[/name] (may face some girls with this name)
[name]Jedediah[/name]
[name]Isidore[/name]
[name]Winston[/name]
Maybe as nicknames for a fuller name
[name]Kit[/name] ([name]Christopher[/name], [name]Christian[/name], [name]Crispin[/name])
[name]Rex[/name] ([name]Regis[/name], [name]Reginald[/name], [name]Reuben[/name], [name]Richard[/name]? - I’ve only known dogs named [name]Rex[/name]. Shame)
[name]Grey[/name] ([name]Greyson[/name], [name]Greydon[/name])
[name]Boone[/name] (I’m stretching here but [name]Boniface[/name], Bonner, [name]Bogdan[/name], [name]Bonaventure[/name])
[name]Frey[/name] ([name]Fraser[/name], [name]Fabian[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Francis[/name], [name]Franklin[/name])
I think they’re all usable, except maybe [name]Merlin[/name]. My favorites are [name]Ambrose[/name] and [name]Rex[/name]. I have a cousin named [name]Rex[/name] and I’ve always thought it was the coolest name.
[name]Merlin[/name] - the Magician is too strong a connection for me. lots of teasing potential no good nn
[name]Ambrose[/name] - traditional german name, in my family tree ; would consider
[name]Oswin[/name] - I don’t like the sounds of this, kind of whiny
[name]Percival[/name] (Or just [name]Percy[/name]) - it seems very “sissy” to me, lots of teasing potential
[name]Darcy[/name] - sounds like a female name to me
[name]Kit[/name] - only ones I know use [name]Kit[/name] as nn for [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Kathryn[/name]
[name]Isidore[/name] - sounds too feminine
[name]Grey[/name] - works better as nn for [name]GReyson[/name]
[name]Boone[/name] - soounds very hick
[name]Frey[/name] - Not for a boy, I love [name]Freya[/name] for a girl
Usuable
[name]Ambrose[/name] - traditional german name, in my family tree ; would consider
[name]Laurent[/name] - I know two people with this name
[name]Jedediah[/name] - great Biblical name with nice nn potential
[name]Rex[/name] - a know a ten year old with this name, works well
[name]Winston[/name] - makes me think of [name]Winston[/name] [name]Churchill[/name] making it sound strong to me.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - Has a nice edgy feel
[name]Laurent[/name] - great alternative to [name]Laurence[/name], handsome name
[name]Darcy[/name] - kind of on the edge, you will get questions re: Mr. [name]Darcy[/name]
[name]Jedediah[/name] - nn [name]Jed[/name], very cool; my DH’s favorite boys name
[name]Kit[/name] - love this, also makes a great nn for any version of [name]Christopher[/name]/[name]Christian[/name]/[name]Christophe[/name]
[name]Isidore[/name] - Have seen it spelled [name]Isadore[/name] as well; an old man’s name [name]IMO[/name] but we use a lot of those now, My grandfather was [name]Israel[/name] ([name]Izzy[/name])
and I knew of several Izzys of his generation who were Isadores; FYI I am near 60!
[name]Rex[/name] - great alternative to the more popular X names for boys
[name]Winston[/name] - I love this one and I actually know a little [name]Winston[/name] - His family call him Wins
[name]Grey[/name] - usable
[name]Boone[/name] - sort of a cowboy name, makes me think of [name]Daniel[/name] when I see it but hearing it wouldn’t be so bad, nn Boo
[name]Merlin[/name] - usable but problematic
[name]Ambrose[/name] - usable, might get odd responses from people, I like it though
[name]Oswin[/name] - Not a huge fan, but usable
[name]Percival[/name] (Or just [name]Percy[/name]) - Usable
[name]Laurent[/name] - Usable - I live in a french community though
[name]Darcy[/name] - Usable for sure. I went to college with a male [name]Darcy[/name]. I love the name, hubby doesn’t.
[name]Jedediah[/name] - Sounds like a Bible thumper, I say no.
[name]Kit[/name] - As a nickname for sure.
[name]Isidore[/name] - Too easy to tease
[name]Rex[/name] - I would like to say yes…
[name]Winston[/name] - Why not?
[name]Grey[/name] - Most definitely usable
[name]Boone[/name] - yes
[name]Frey[/name] - no. [name]Freya[/name] for a girl is great
I think they’re all pretty usable. I think [name]Boone[/name]'s ugly and [name]Rex[/name] is a dog, and [name]Jedediah[/name] is bloody difficult to say, but you can use them!
I know a [name]Laurent[/name], he’s a very cool Frenchman with longish curly brown hair. I really love [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Percival[/name] and [name]Isidore[/name]!
To me the only usable ones are [name]Laurent[/name] (prefer [name]Lawrence[/name]), [name]Percival[/name] and [name]Winston[/name], maybe [name]Oswin[/name].
[name]Merlin[/name] - connection to the sorcerer is too strong
[name]Ambrose[/name] - too close to [name]Ambrosia[/name], sounds like a stripper name
[name]Darcy[/name] - would be fine for a girl (obviously)
[name]Jedediah[/name] - too religious for me
[name]Kit[/name] - would be fine as a nickname
[name]Isidore[/name] - sounds like a made up (girl’s) name to me
[name]Rex[/name] - like T-[name]Rex[/name] or like your dog [name]Rex[/name]?
[name]Grey[/name] - maybe as a middle name, maybe acceptable if mom’s maiden name is [name]Grey[/name]
[name]Boone[/name] - hickish
[name]Frey[/name] - doesn’t sound like a name to me
I think they’re all usable. [name]Merlin[/name] is the only one that seems a bit of a stretch. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Kit[/name], and [name]Darcy[/name]. Also really like [name]Percival[/name]/[name]Percy[/name], [name]Rex[/name], and [name]Grey[/name]. I don’t agree that [name]Kit[/name] should only be a nickname. I think it’s a great name. If other short, three-letter names like [name]Max[/name] or [name]Sam[/name] are usable as full first names, I think [name]Kit[/name] should be, too.
The names that I consider usable are:
[name]Percival[/name] nn [name]Percy[/name] - [name]Even[/name] though it’s a longer name with the nn [name]Percy[/name] I think it’s very usable.
[name]Jedediah[/name] - This is usable especially since you have the nn option of [name]Jed[/name]
[name]Rex[/name] - I know that people name their dog’s this but I absolutely love this name for a boy. It’s charming and handsome imo.
[name]Winston[/name] - I think you could use this especially in the middle name slot
[name]Grey[/name] - People name their son [name]Grayson[/name] so I don’t see why you can’t use [name]Grey[/name].
[name]Boone[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one!
[name]Merlin[/name] - Very heavy associations with this one, but I still like it. It could be cool.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - I love.
[name]Oswin[/name] - I don’t like. I agree that it sounds rather whiny.
[name]Percival[/name] (Or just [name]Percy[/name]) - Not sure if I quite like [name]Percival[/name], but [name]Percy[/name] is really growing on me.
[name]Laurent[/name] - I really like this name! He feels classy and French, with a dash of darkness.
[name]Darcy[/name] - I love! I prefer it as a middle name, but I really love this name! It’s so handsome to me.
[name]Jedediah[/name] - Though it’s not my style, it’s a solid choice.
[name]Kit[/name] - Not feeling this one.
[name]Isidore[/name] - Hm…this could grow on me. It’s interesting.
[name]Rex[/name] - Makes me think of a dog or the dinosaur.
[name]Winston[/name] - Feels like a butler.
[name]Grey[/name] - I like.
[name]Boone[/name] - Sounds country.
[name]Frey[/name] - Makes me think of the band or the girl name [name]Freya[/name]. I personally wouldn’t use it.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - the saint connection makes this very familiar to me. There is one at my church, he’s in his 80’s, I think it’s definitely usable [name]Laurent[/name] - so handsome! I don’t know ay but I’d love to meet one
[name]Darcy[/name] - feminine to me but doable
[name]Jedediah[/name] - I know several of these actually, they usually go by [name]Jed[/name], it actually seems normal to me
[name]Kit[/name] - better as a NN but usable
[name]Rex[/name] - seems better suited to a dog to me but it works
[name]Winston[/name]
[name]Grey[/name] - I know a boy about 10 who is just [name]Grey[/name] not short for anything and he wears it very well
[name]Boone[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]!
I’m on the fence about [name]Isidore[/name] and [name]Percival[/name]. I want to say yes to [name]Isidore[/name] but with all the [name]Izzy[/name] girls names out there I’m not sure and [name]Percival[/name] seems usable but it’s not a name I would want, but that’s just my opinion.
I think they are all usable though some may be better suited to the middle position. My personal picks from these would be [name]Percival[/name], [name]Laurent[/name], [name]Darcy[/name], [name]Winston[/name], and [name]Boone[/name]. =]
Names I like and definitely think are usable: [name]Rex[/name], [name]Winston[/name], [name]Jedediah[/name], [name]Boone[/name], [name]Grey[/name]
Names that I can imagine people using but I don’t think necessarily “should” be: [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Merlin[/name], [name]Percival[/name], [name]Laurent[/name], [name]Darcy[/name], [name]Oswin[/name]
Names I feel are not usable: [name]Kit[/name], [name]Isidore[/name], [name]Frey[/name]
[name]Merlin[/name] - Nope. All I picture is the magician and it’s also pretty popular for dogs.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - Nope again, as to be it is very ugly and old-fashioned-but-not-in-a-good-way.
[name]Oswin[/name] - Not sure on this, but it makes me think of the new [name]Doctor[/name] Who companion, [name]Clara[/name] [name]Oswin[/name] [name]Oswald[/name], so people might think you’re a DW fan (which you might be).
[name]Percival[/name] (Or just [name]Percy[/name]) - I love [name]Percy[/name]. I had it on my list as [name]Percival[/name] nn [name]Percy[/name], but I changed it to just [name]Percy[/name]. I do like [name]Percival[/name], but I think I prefer just [name]Percy[/name].
[name]Laurent[/name] - Fine, but I think the majorty of English speakers will mangle the pronunciation. Unless you mean to pronounce it LAWR-ent as opposed to lawr-AHN. I like [name]Laurence[/name] though.
[name]Darcy[/name] - [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Darcy[/name] for a boy. I had it as a possible middle name but it has now been promoted to a possible first name even though it’s pretty popular for girls here and I know an eight-month-old one.
[name]Jedediah[/name] - Not really my style, but there’s nothing wrong with it.
[name]Kit[/name] - [name]Love[/name] as a nickname, but I think it could work as a middle too.
[name]Isidore[/name] - I think it’s quite handsome, but with the popularity of [name]Isabel/name I think people might assume he’s a girl.
[name]Rex[/name] - [name]Love[/name] as a middle.
[name]Winston[/name] - Not fond on. I can’t picture it on anyone but [name]Churchill[/name].
[name]Grey[/name] - Like as a middle (bit of a guilty pleasure actually).
[name]Boone[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like at all, sorry.
[name]Frey[/name] - Nope, all I hear is the word fray.
[name]Merlin[/name] - No way.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - Yes! (I’d use it as a second, though, with a more masculine first name.)
[name]Oswin[/name] - never heard of it.
[name]Percival[/name] (Or just [name]Percy[/name]) - too much for me.
[name]Laurent[/name] - would be confused for [name]Laurence[/name] or Laruren.
[name]Darcy[/name] - I hear “Mr. Dah-see” in a strong British accent in my head. I think it’s cute though. Yes!
[name]Jedediah[/name] - I wouldn’t.
[name]Kit[/name] - Not strong enough for a name. (And I’d take it to be feminine.)
[name]Isidore[/name] - Old man.
[name]Rex[/name] - A dog or lizard.
[name]Winston[/name] - [name]Churchill[/name]
[name]Grey[/name] - Somehow this became popular, and I have no idea why.
[name]Boone[/name] - I wouldn’t.
[name]Frey[/name] - Like “the rug is fraying?” Doesn’t sound like a name to me.
Those are just my honest feelings. Sorry if they are not what you wanted to hear.
