Are Cecily and Coralie too close for sisters?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! I have a daughter, [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], and I’m due in late [name_f]May[/name_f] 2018. We love the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but disagree on the best longer version of the name. We are going back and forth between [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Coretta[/name_f], and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. I love the sound of [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], but I wonder if it’s too close to my daughter’s name. She is called [name_f]Cece[/name_f], Cessie, and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] pretty equally. This baby would be call [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Coco[/name_f], or [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] pretty equally as well, if I had to guess. What do you think of the sibset [name_m]Vincent[/name_m], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]? What do you think of the name [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] in general?

Full name would be either
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_m]Davey[/name_m] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] or
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_m]Davey[/name_m] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]

Thanks for your feedback!

I don’t think it should rule the name out, but they do look and sound a little similar. Similar enough to cause confusion in day to day life? I’m not sure - although they have the same number of syllables, and end in -lee, one has lots of S sounds and the other a hard C and R. So I think you’d probably be OK, especially since [name_f]Cece[/name_f] / Cessie and [name_f]Coco[/name_f] / [name_f]Cora[/name_f] sound very different. The more I think about it, the more different they seem - but I would definitely be prepared for people getting them mixed up!

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] sound a bit too similar to me for sisters, sorry. They both start with C (albeit a different sound), end in the “lee” sound, and have three syllables with emphasis on the first. Not way too close to be usable, but I wouldn’t do it myself. [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] would be fine though- I find names tend to sound more similar if they have the same beginning AND ending sound as opposed to sharing just one.

You might also like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], which have the same classic feel as [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and can get you to nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. Or use just [name_f]Cora[/name_f], which can definitely stand alone- it actually gets more use as a full name than any of the longer forms do.

I don’t think you should say no to [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] if it’s THE name, but [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] do sound awfully similar.

[name_f]Coralie[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Coraline[/name_f].

I like the idea of using it as a nickname, good idea. I can’t tell if it’s THE name or not, but I’m not in love with [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] or [name_f]Coretta[/name_f], and maybe I’m just drawn to the ending in -lee sound?!

Then it sounds like if you end up using any of the [name_f]Cora[/name_f] names, it’ll be [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. The more I say [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] together out loud, the less they sound so much alike. If you’re drawn to the ending in -[name_u]Lee[/name_u] names, it’s for good reason… they tend to be such sweet names, don’t they?

They do! It probably has something to do with the fact that my name is [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and I’ve always liked the sound of it.

I don’t think they sound that similar. I love [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] are fine together. I like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_m]Davey[/name_m] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f].

ABSOLUTELY. [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]. I think sisters [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] are fine together, and are not that similar. To me they only have the same ending sound. That is all.

[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_u]Patrice[/name_u] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_m]Davey[/name_m] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

I love the nicknames [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Cece[/name_f] and [name_f]Coco[/name_f]

This is exactly what I came here to say!

I don’t think [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] are too close to be sisters. While they do share similar sounds, I think they’re slightly different enough from each other. Also, the nicknames are very different so I think that also limits the confusion.
I personally prefer [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], but it sounds like [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] has won your heart. I say you should go for it! [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] [name_m]Davey[/name_m] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a beautiful name.

(Congrats on the little one, btw!)

Agree!

Another option: [name_f]Coralyn[/name_f].

Thank you! [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] definitely has won my heart. Hubby wants [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]…debating if the ending sounds of [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_m]Davey[/name_m] sound rough together…?
