[name]Both[/name] [name]Declan[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] are quite handsome names

My husband and I actually faced a similar naming issue when considering names for a potential baby boy – we have a [name]Milo[/name], and we were debating about whether we could use the name [name]Theo[/name], since both share an -o ending. Your situation is similar, since both names share that -c(h)lan ending. Personally, I’d prefer all the siblings have different endings to their names, HOWEVER, my husband was on the other side of the fence. He would argue that since MY-lo and THEE-o are distinct up front, than they are usable. [name]Declan[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] sound a bit more similar than that, but I think if you love them both, than go for it. Especially if they would go by distinct nicknames ([name]Dex[/name] and [name]Locke[/name], which I [name]LOVE[/name] by the way) a lot of the time.

Oh and I like the [name]Locke[/name] spelling for the nickname. It feels more complete than Lach.

Good luck!

I agree with the PP. Because of the nicknames you have chosen you may be able to get away with it. If I met a [name]Declan[/name] and a [name]Lachlann[/name] (I would love to meet little boys with these names!) I would wonder if there was confusion at home when they are being called, but I wouldn’t think it was a bad match. I do not think it is a bad match at all, it speaks a lot of your style. They are very cohesive brother names! Also, I like [name]Locke[/name] as opposed to Lach. When I see Lach, mentally I read it as “latch”. Best of luck to you!

I think they are too close for me and generally I like close names, but there is something about these two. I think it is the “L” sound but with the NN’s it might make them usable. Maybe practice saying them and see if you get tongued tied or starting mixing up the names that should tell you

I asked myself the same thing and decided they were too close for my comfort, but with nn’s it could work out.
