Are Eamon and Emeline too similar for boy/girl twins?

Eamon is pronounced Ay-mun so a little different. My husband and I are really hung up on these names but are concerned about them being too similar. I’m 36 weeks already and will have a scheduled c-section within the next week or so. What do you think?

I think it’s okay, not perfect, but not too close you can’t use it.

Thank you. It really is unintentional but we love both so much

I think it’s fine if you love both names. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is beautiful and [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] is a solid choice.

I find them too similar in a couple of ways.

1 They share an “E” initial
2 [name_m]Both[/name_m] names contain a pronounced “m” sound within them
3 They also end in “n” sound

I love both names but I wouldn’t choose them for siblings or twins. Maybe I’m more sensitive to certain sounds than some people. If you and your DH like them and don’t think they’re too matchy, then go for it!

I wouldn’t use them on siblings, but I’m personally very averse to matching names. They’re both lovely names!

I have a feeling you and “twinsonboard” are the same person. You both joined today and have only made posts about similar twin names that asked the same exact question. While it’s OK to post about these questions and you will get great feedback, please pick one person to be.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]. We are not the same person but I was definitely inspired by their post

I technically joined today but have visited Nameberry almost daily for the last three years and really value the opinions of posters. Really struggling with these names and so close to my delivery.

I should mention they have an older sibling, [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

Thank you!

[name_m]WAY[/name_m] too similar

Any suggestions? We were going for [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_f]Emeline[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. We are pretty set on [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] other choice would be [name_u]Roan[/name_u] or [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] but hubby not keen. For our little girl we had narrowed down to:

[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]

Thank you

Thanks for some background, and sorry for pointing fingers since that is not the case. It seemed so similar and you both joined today-weird! [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Finn[/name_u]'s name. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughter goes to preschool with a little boy named [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and I love his name. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce [name_f]Emeline[/name_f]?

No worries. I can see how it would have looked that way

We would pronounce it [name_f]Em[/name_f]-el-een and it goes really well with our Italian surname, which has the “een” sound in it also, but ends in “o”. So Ay-mun and [name_f]Em[/name_f]-el-een. I am Irish and DH is Italian/American so we are keen to honor both our heritages. I appreciate your opinion.

I think [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] are okay together, as long as you don’t plan on calling [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] by the nn of [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], which is even more similar to [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]. From your list, I do love [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] together.

I prefer [name_f]Em[/name_f]-eh-leen to [name_f]Em[/name_f]-eh-line, so that is how I would have pronounced it too. I don’t mind matchy names, and I don’t think these two are that close together. I think it would be OK to use both.

I agree that they’re too close.
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] would be my preference.

I think I prefer [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] with [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] than any of the other names. If you chose [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] you could use [name_f]Eva[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Milena[/name_f] is too Slavic with the Celtic [name_m]Eamon[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f] together because they have the same Irish ancestry but then one parent’s heritage would be left out. It’s nice to choose something from each parent’s culture if possible without the names being too mismatched.

1 [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
2 [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]

I think they are a bit too much, but, [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] sound nice to me (I happen to be weird). Could you maybe move [name_f]Emeline[/name_f] to the middle spot?

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions

I hadn’t even thought of [name_f]Emeline[/name_f] ([name_f]Em[/name_f]-eh-leen) being pronounced as [name_f]Em[/name_f]-eh-line. Would you pronounce [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] as Ev-eh-leena or Ee-vah-leena? [name_f]My[/name_f] only hang up with this name is that I don’t like the name [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], but I love that it can have [name_f]Eva[/name_f] as a nn. [name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name would have been [name_f]Eva[/name_f] three years ago and it’s close enough to [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], but without the lifetime of spelling it out. What do you think about spelling [name_f]Evalina[/name_f]?

Definitely a no go zone.

Are you responding to the original question? Any helpful suggestions?
