My first daughter’s birth name is [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and she’s always gone by [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. We’re considering [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] for Daughter #2 since it’s a family name on both sides. We can’t call her [name_f]Cora[/name_f] since we already have a niece with that name so we’re considering [name_f]Nella[/name_f] for a nickname.
Question – do [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Nella[/name_f] sound too similar to be sisters? [name_m]Will[/name_m] it get confusing?
I think their a little close-- you’ll end up yelling “[name_f]Ella[/name_f]” for them both! What about [name_u]Nelly[/name_u]/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_u]Cory[/name_u]/[name_f]Cori[/name_f], or maybe even [name_f]Celia[/name_f] instead?
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] make a lovely sibset! [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Nella[/name_f] do sound a bit close to me though, since the “ell” sound is so prominent in both names. I was going to suggest [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f] as well. What about [name_f]Coco[/name_f] or [name_u]Corrie[/name_u] ([name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_u]Corrie[/name_u] would be too close for siblings but not for cousins to me- though others may disagree)?
No, I think they’re stunning together! [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Nella[/name_f] - fab! [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is such a great name and I love anything “[name_f]Nell[/name_f]” related so it’s a win on both fronts for me.
I would just use [name_f]Nell[/name_f], I think. You lose the “a” ending, and thus they sound far more dissimilar. I personally love the name [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as well. It’s not too common, and has a lot of spunk.
I think it’s too close. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Nell[/name_f] or [name_f]Nelia[/name_f]?
I don’t think they’re too close, especially for nicknames. Their sounds are pretty distinct, and both those names are gorgeous.
Thanks, everyone, for your responses! We’re still sorting things out… Have about 10 more weeks… Choosing a name for our first daughter was easy but this one has proven to be more a challenge.
