So I really like the names [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] , [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] and [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] but I don’t like the nickname [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Ricky[/name_u]. Is it basically a given that [name_m]Rick[/name_m] will be used?
It’s honestly never occurred to me that they could be called [name_m]Rick[/name_m]. I’m sure there are some people would try to shorten it to [name_m]Rick[/name_m], I don’t think it would be every one and I definitely think it’s avoidable. Keep in mind though that he may choose to go by [name_m]Rick[/name_m] at some point in his life.
I don’t think so! [name_m]Kenny[/name_m], [name_f]Merry[/name_f] and [name_m]Ced[/name_m] feel like more natural shortenings to me, although I think all of these are names that don’t really need a nickname.
I also don’t immediately think [name_m]Rick[/name_m] with those names. It’s a possibility, but definitely not inevitable. ‘Rick’ just feels like an ending sound, as opposed to the differing initial part of the name. Sort of how -ian names probably wouldn’t be nicknamed [name_m]Ian[/name_m].
I don’t think so. It’s not a popular nickname these days so i don’t think it would be people’s automatic reaction
I don’t think they’re destined to be Rick.As PPs have said, there are other nicknames for each of them. Also though, they only have two syllables, so I don’t think they’re names that people would feel they need to abbreviate anyway.
[name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] I’d use [name_m]Ken[/name_m]. [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] I’d be tempted to use [name_m]Rick[/name_m]. [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] I love and [name_m]Rick[/name_m] doesn’t really occur to me with that name
I’d think [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] would be [name_m]Ken[/name_m] & the rest would be called by their full names.
[name_m]Rick[/name_m] wouldn’t be my first thought for any of them, for the reasons listed above. It seems like just the ending not the main part.
I can see the [name_m]Rick[/name_m] in all of them and I too am not a fan of the name.
I see it like this:
[name_m]Kenrick[/name_m] - [name_m]Ken[/name_m]
[name_m]Merrick[/name_m] - [name_f]Merry[/name_f] or [name_m]Mick[/name_m]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m] - [name_m]Ced[/name_m]
I had never thought of these names being able to be nicknamed [name_m]Rick[/name_m]! While it very well could happen, I think it would be easy to shut down and isn’t something to worry about much!
I think it could for sure happen, but it’s not necessarily inevitable. But if you really hate the name [name_m]Rick[/name_m] and really wouldn’t like if he chose to use that as a nickname in the future then I would probably steer clear of the names. If you like [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], you could consider [name_u]Merritt[/name_u] instead which sounds very similar but would totally avoid the [name_m]Rick[/name_m] nickname.
[name_m]Ken[/name_m] and [name_m]Kenny[/name_m] are my first thought for [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m]. I think Mer for [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], and [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] is [name_m]Ced[/name_m] or Ted/Teddy for me.
Highly unlikely where I live these days.
I don’t think so. If you do encounter the occasional person who does say [name_m]Rick[/name_m], a quick correction should be all that is needed.
