We just found out it’s a BOY! So excited but having such a hard time finding a boys name I love as much as [name]Jack[/name]. I love [name]Jack[/name] since it simple, strong, timeless and kind of all american.
So far the only names dh and I agree on are [name]Max[/name] and [name]Ben[/name]. [name]Luke[/name], [name]Drew[/name] and [name]Nathan[/name] were vetoed now that it is actually a boy and not just a name for a possible child. But I feel like I need to have some other options and DH likes [name]Kyle[/name], [name]Neil[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] but was wondering if they too dated. I do like that [name]Kyle[/name] and [name]Neil[/name] arent that popular but [name]Ryan[/name] may be too popular for me.
I do think [name]Kyle[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] are a bit dated. Those are very common boys’ names in my age group (28-32). I also know a [name]Neil[/name], but it doesn’t seem as dated to me.
I actually really like [name]Kyle[/name]! [name]Neil[/name] is handsome, too. [name]Ryan[/name] is very popular but still a nice choice. If you like them, you should consider using them. I don’t think they are too dated to use.
[name]Kyle[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] are more “dated” to me than [name]Neil[/name]. I like [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Neil[/name]. You can always use the Irish version [name]Niall[/name] (pronounced [name]Nile[/name]) to give the name an extra sparkle.
I don’t think they’re dated. [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Kyle[/name] seem like they have been used consistently for a long time. I like [name]Neil[/name] too, it doesn’t seem to have had as much popularity as the other names. I like all three but [name]Kyle[/name] really is my favorite. I think it sounds great with [name]Jack[/name], I like that they both have the k sound in them.
I’m not crazy about any of those three names, but I don’t think they’re dated. [name]Kyle[/name] isn’t dated yet, so that’s viable. [name]Neil[/name] isn’t too common so that keeps it from feeling overused. [name]Ryan[/name] is boring to me.
I like [name]Max[/name] a lot, but maybe it’s a bit matchy-match with [name]Jack[/name]? Same vowel sound there, but it’s not too obvious.
I never heard it until my 5 year old [name]Jack[/name], said “[name]Max[/name] sounds a little like [name]Jack[/name] right Mom?” He wants to talk about the new baby’s name every night! But its one of the few name DH and I both like and that I think stands up to the strength of [name]Jack[/name]! I am not in love with either of [name]Kyle[/name], [name]Neil[/name] or [name]Ryan[/name] either but trying to keep an open mind.
Any other suggestions? I am just not excited about any names.
Those names do seem a bit dated to me. They are nice but none of them seem to fit with [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Claire[/name]. [name]Max[/name] may works but I agree it may be a little to close to big brother’s name. I do like [name]Ben[/name] though. Have you thought of a longer version yet? [name]Jack[/name], [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Benjamin[/name]? [name]Bennett[/name]? [name]Benedict[/name]? You have some nice options. Good luck.

[name]Kyle[/name], [name]Ryan[/name] & [name]Neil[/name] are dated, but in different ways.
[name]Ryan[/name] is really 80s to me. I went to high school with like, 20 Ryans in a school of 1000. [name]Kyle[/name] is more early-90s. [name]Neil[/name] is kind of 70s, and I guess the least dated because its decade quite a while ago and I don’t think it was ever that popular (not as popular as [name]Ryan[/name] or [name]Kyle[/name], as far as I’ve noticed)
I really prefer both [name]Max[/name] and ben to [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Kyle[/name] and [name]Neil[/name].
What about [name]Reid[/name] (similar to [name]Neil[/name], but not dated at all, imo), [name]Miles[/name], [name]Ian[/name], [name]Euan[/name]/ [name]Ewan[/name], or [name]Adam[/name]?
From my perspective (born in '79) - [name]Ryan[/name] is boring, ubiquitous for my age group, and still surprisingly popular. [name]Kyle[/name] is - I’m not sure how to put it - kind of blah for me. Popularity has dropped off considerably the past couple decades, which I think makes it sound more dated. [name]Neil[/name] is the only one I like. Since it was never hugely popular, I think that helps the dated factor, and I can picture it on a baby and an adult. Maybe that’s why I don’t like [name]Ryan[/name] or [name]Kyle[/name] - because I picture a 30 or 40 year old.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Reid[/name], but I think it rhymes with our last name [name]Friedman[/name] (prn [name]Freedman[/name]), I also like [name]Ian[/name] not sure about that about with [name]Friedman[/name] either. I do like [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Adam[/name] though, not sure if I love them. Thanks!
I’m surprised by how many Ryans I haven’t met … if that makes sense. I was always told it’s a popular name (if I was a boy, it would’ve been my name), but I think I’ve only actually met 3 in my entire life, at different times in my life (one in Elementary School, one in Middle School, and one in High School). I really love the name [name]Ryan[/name], and I don’t think it’ll ever go out of style <3
I like [name]Kyle[/name]. I dislike [name]Ryan[/name] because I now know several girls with the name [name]Ryan[/name] (even some spelled the same) and it makes it not masculine enough for me. Good luck!
I don’t find [name]Kyle[/name] or [name]Ryan[/name] to be dated but I feel like [name]Neil[/name] may be. [name]Nolan[/name] is a somewhat similar name. I love [name]Jack[/name], I think you should name him that. I also like [name]Max[/name], but I find [name]Jack[/name] to be forever a classic.
Best of luck to you Xx
[name]Neil[/name] feels a little grandpa-ish, but [name]Niall[/name] would be a fresh alternative. [name]Kyle[/name] and [name]Ryan[/name] feel very 80s/90s to me, but I don’t think either of them are too, too dated.
[name]Neil[/name] or [name]Neal[/name] are strong & simple. Not very modern, but also not dated imo. I think [name]Neil[/name] is like [name]Dean[/name]. Kind of dashing in a white t & jeans kind of way. I thinks it’s the [name]Neal[/name] [name]Cassady[/name]/[name]Jack[/name] [name]Kerouac[/name] connection.
[name]Ryan[/name] & [name]Brian[/name] and dated.
[name]Kyle[/name] is a bit less dated than [name]Ryan[/name] imo, but still very 90s.
Of your list I would 100% go for [name]Neil[/name].
I like [name]Neil[/name] (or [name]Niall[/name]) best. [name]Ryan[/name] is inoffensive but not as strong as [name]Jack[/name] to me - and I really like the 1-syllable quality of [name]Neil[/name]. I do not like [name]Kyle[/name] at all. [name]Neil[/name] does not feel modern but it was not popular enough to feel as dated as [name]Ryan[/name] and [name]Kyle[/name] do to me.
Other one syllable names I could see with [name]Jack[/name]: [name]Heath[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], [name]Finn[/name], [name]Shane[/name], [name]Keith[/name], [name]Dean[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], [name]Dan[/name], [name]Saul[/name], [name]Zane[/name], [name]Bram[/name], [name]Hale[/name], [name]Rex[/name]…?
