Okay! So, my husband’s name is [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]. If we have a little boy he wants to be able to call the baby “[name_m]Mac[/name_m].” He wanted us to name him [name_m]Mac[/name_m], but I really would like him to have a more formal and long name. Plus, my best friend’s step son’s name is [name_u]Max[/name_u]… I just think it is too close for comfort. Any way! The prefix “[name_m]Mac[/name_m]” means “son of,” so! we thought maybe we could name out son Macaaron. [name_m]Mac[/name_m]-[name_m]Aaron[/name_m].
Get it? [name_m]Son[/name_m] of [name_m]Aaron[/name_m]. I would want to pronounce it “Muh-[name_f]Karen[/name_f].” I like it, but I know how hard it is growing up with a name no one can spell or pronounce.
My name is [name_f]Kirsten[/name_f]… Pronounced “Key-ir-sten.”
We have other names with the nickname “[name_m]Mac[/name_m]” - though. So, if I could get y’all’s opinions, that would be dandy.
The choices are:
Macaaron
Maccoy
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
Or
Mackinley
*** My husband doesn’t like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], but I am working on him.
I honestly don’t like any of them. Clearly Macaaron is the worst of them all, and Maccoy is asking for your child to be tortured with “the real [name_m]McCoy[/name_m]” jokes the rest of his like. I agree with your husband, I don’t like [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. It sounds like a cheap restaurant. And MacKinley makes me think of [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]McKinley[/name_u], which is pretty… blah. At least it’s not [name_m]Bush[/name_m] or something even more ridiculous.
I’m curious about what kind of names your husband likes. Does he like names that sound like names?
I love the name [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. Macaaron looks a little too close to macaroon for me, and I’m generally not a fan of non-established names. You might also consider:
When I was responding to your post my phone autocorrected Macaaron to Macaroni… So, I think between the Macaroon and Macaroni thing… It’s out completely.
I honestly don’t think any name can be weird (unless it doesn’t have history or origins as a given name) but they can be ‘out there’. Not weird. Macaaron is slightly ‘out there’ though.
I’m sorry but the only one I like is [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. What a great, traditional Irish name! It’s also a great way to get to [name_m]Mac[/name_m] that will age well.
Macaaron-- not very good. It looks like macaroon.
Maccoy – I don’t really like this one either.
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] – the best from your list.
Mackinley – I know two girls named [name_f]Kinley[/name_f] and one named [name_f]Mckenna[/name_f]. So this name is way too feminine for me.
I like the suggestion of [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] nn [name_m]Mac[/name_m].
Oh no. No offense, but Macaaron is awful. So are the other M names on your list. Try thinking of some other “[name_m]Mac[/name_m]” type names without making up your own. Previous posters have suggested…
that [name_m]Mac[/name_m] is a great nickname, but that it is not a first name!
I’ve taught for 25 years (3rd grade-12th) and Macaaron is a monstrosity. So much so that I wonder if this post is real. If for no other reason, do not use it because it looks like macaroon, spelled wrong.
[name_m]McCoy[/name_m] or [name_u]McKinley[/name_u] would be fine, but not with the misspellings.
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is the best choice of all of them.
Macaaron automatically made me think of macaroni and macaroons. Definitely not a fan of this one, but the thought behind it is nice.
Off your list, I adore [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. So handsome and strong (Also a wonderful writer!)
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] could maybe stretch to be [name_m]Mac[/name_m].
A quick search led me to Macsen. Looks like a weird variant of [name_u]Mason[/name_u], but I do prefer that to Macarron.
I honestly think just [name_m]Mack[/name_m] is fine. If [name_m]Jack[/name_m] can stand alone, so can [name_m]Mack[/name_m]. Then you don’t have to worry about a full name you may or may not like.
[name_m]Mac[/name_m] to me is like [name_m]Buddy[/name_m] or something - name him whatever you like, and call him little [name_m]Mac[/name_m]!
If you need an anchor name, [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] is my favorite of the suggestions.
