Are names ending with -ine doomed to be middle name material only?

Like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_f]Melusine[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]…? Could they stand in the first spot? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any suggestions for girl combos?

Like, could you find good middle name for names ending on- ine?

I love them up front sometimes. (Middle is okay too depending on the name).

I love:
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_u]Clare[/name_u] - this is with either emma-LEEN or emma-[name_f]LINE[/name_f] pronunciation.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] Esmé
[name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] - but I only really like [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] with a short “min” ending syllable as in jasmine. I find three syllable names that end in that short -in/-en sound quite forgiving in combos in general and easy to make combos with.

I’m extremely fond of [name_f]Zephirine[/name_f] but still picking out a combo for it. I had been fond of [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Zephirine[/name_f], actually, but it is a middle in that case.

Euphrosine I like but haven’t figured out what to do with yet.

I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are fantastic first names.

I like most -ine names. In the first spot. It never occurred to me these would be thought of as middle names only.
If I ever have a girl her name will be [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. We also have [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] on our list. We prefer using family names for middles so these are combos we have considered with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Annetta[/name_f]

If I coukd choose any combo I like:
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Hero[/name_u] (gp only probably)

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Melusine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]

Oh yea defo… first name type names…

My fave INE ending names are…

[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Adaline[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
Avaline (although i like avalon a lil more)
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottoline[/name_f]

I like the names ending in -ine because they are great for first and middles. The classics are always good as firsts: [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Victorine[/name_f], etc. Some that seem more dated or unusual make good middles: [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Francine[/name_f], Katerine, [name_f]Nadine[/name_f], [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f], [name_f]Sandrine[/name_f], Ursaline, [name_u]Valentine[/name_u], etc.

I would use all of these in the front spot
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] “[name_f]Cate[/name_f]”
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]”
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] “[name_f]Jessa[/name_f]”
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]”
[name_f]Perline[/name_f] “[name_u]Perry[/name_u]”
[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Sandrine[/name_f]

Most of them I seem to prefer with one syllable middles

Middle names only? No way!

The popular trend over the past few decades has been towards shorter girl names though… two syllables especially, it would seem. And the strongest trend has been toward girl names ending in -a… [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], etc.

Names ending in -ine sound elegant to me… [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Claudine[/name_f], [name_f]Sandrine[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f], [name_f]Pauline[/name_f], [name_f]Perrine[/name_f], [name_f]Fantine[/name_f], [name_f]Nadine[/name_f], [name_f]Victorine[/name_f]… I’m used to hearing [name_m]French[/name_m] names, though.

Some closely-related name endings have shown some popularity very recently, so maybe there’s some change in the air for girl names… [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_u]Marian[/name_u]/[name_u]Marion[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], for example.

Uh, no. -ine names can make great first names (I’m sister to a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]).

[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Melusine[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] [name_f]Emma[/name_f]

Those are just a few examples.
