I’m on a name kick lately so I’m probably posting a lot but here it goes.
I love the name [name]Millie[/name]. I do not like the full form of [name]Mildred[/name] (yeck!) and I don’t love [name]Millicent[/name]. It’s okay but I prefer [name]Millie[/name] and why name a child [name]Millicent[/name] if I plan on calling her [name]Millie[/name]? I have two worries/issues with this name tho. [name]One[/name], does [name]Millie[/name] stand up on its own as a name without a longer more formal version? I really love [name]Millie[/name] and it just seems silly to use [name]Millicent[/name] if she’s never going to be called that and while I don’t hate it like [name]Mildred[/name] I just don’t love it like I do [name]Millie[/name]. Two, are there any middle names that go with [name]Millie[/name]? I can’t seem to find anything that sounds right with it! It’s like the mn that goes with [name]Millie[/name] is non-existent!
I like [name]Millie[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] has been a favorite of mine for a long time but I’m afraid most will see it as just a common “filler name”. [name]Millie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is nice (I’ve always loved [name]Jane[/name] and think it is underused especially as a fn) but I wonder if it flows right with [name]Millie[/name] since both are so short. [name]Millie[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is nice as well but do all the l’s run together?
If you don’t love [name]Millicent[/name], maybe you’d like [name]Melisande[/name], [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Milla[/name]/[name]Mila[/name], [name]Milana[/name] or [name]Camilla[/name]/[name]Camille[/name].
Picking a middle name for any of those would be different than picking one for [name]Millie[/name] as a stand-alone…maybe because [name]Millie[/name] sounds like a nickname, and people don’t usually call a child by their nickname and their middle name all at once. I like [name]Millie[/name] as a nn, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to be on its own. Regardless, here are a few middles that might just work with just-[name]Millie[/name]:
Perhaps you could use a family name in the middle place? No matter what you choose, [name]Millie[/name] is a cute name. And for what it’s worth, I think [name]Millicent[/name] is gorgeous.
My husband and I are considering [name]Miller[/name] for a girl NM [name]Millie[/name]. The opposition leader of [name]Ontario[/name] (Canadian province) gave us the idea. that’s his 3 or 4 year old daughter’s name and they call her [name]Millie[/name]. We have family names set in stone for MNs so can’t be of much help there, sorry!
My only other thought to traditional mn’s was to use a mn that has a lot of meaning to me. [name]How[/name] does [name]Millie[/name] Wight sound? [name]Millie[/name] Wight (Last Name) which starts with an I, is hungarian and sounds like is smart.
I also adore [name]Millie[/name]! I don’t know if you’re in the US or not (as opposed to say, the UK, where it seems like nickname names are very popular) but I’m not sure if it can stand on its own.
Other longer names with the potential for the nickname [name]Millie[/name]-[name]Emilia[/name] (my favorite),[name]Amelia[/name], and [name]Matilda[/name].
I like your suggestion of [name]Millie[/name] [name]Jane[/name]-it’s so sweet!
Personally I would use a long form of the name or something similar and nn her [name]Millie[/name]. [name]Millie[/name] is cute, but I think it is wise to go with a more mature version as the full name.
My name is [name]Camille[/name], and some people call me [name]Millie[/name] as a nn- not many, but you can see how it would fit. I’m kind of a believer in two syllable middle names with the emphasis on the second syllable, i.e. [name]MaRIE[/name] or [name]ElISE[/name] or [name]MonROE[/name], etc. My middle name is [name]Elise[/name], and i think it goes well!
[name]Camille[/name] [name]Elise[/name] ([name]Millie[/name] [name]Elise[/name]) - if you use [name]Millie[/name], [name]Elise[/name] may be too much of the same E and ILL sound
Of the names suggested [name]Melisande[/name] is okay as is [name]Emilia[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name]. I like [name]Melinda[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] but I feel like [name]Millie[/name] might be a bit of a stretch for those.
I think [name]Emilia[/name] with the nickname [name]Millie[/name] is just adorable!
I don’t like to see [name]Millie[/name] being used as a full first name, however, it is very popular in the UK and I’m pretty sure it’s top 100 so people here accept it as a first name. I know of the cutest little girl ever named [name]Millie[/name] [name]Rose[/name], and if I could keep her I would lol!
What about [name]Milena[/name] nickname [name]Millie[/name]? I think [name]Milena[/name] is so pretty but I don’t like [name]Lena[/name] for a nickname but never thought of [name]Millie[/name] until your post. I think [name]Milena[/name] [name]Rose[/name], nn [name]Millie[/name] would be a beautiful choice. You could always call her [name]Millie[/name] but she’d have a full name to go by if she wants to when she is older. Other middle suggestions.
I like the sound of [name]Millie[/name] Wight Surname. My grandmother (who was born [name]Mildred[/name] and hated it) has always gone by [name]Millie[/name] so I can see it as a grown up name. This combo certainly sounds nice, at least to me.
Other ideas (just to give you food for thought) of non-filler middle names:
I love [name]Milena[/name] Wight. It’s beautiful-- flows well, is light and happy, and very distinctive. The feminine [name]Milena[/name] is posh, formal, and grownup, which balances the unusual place-name/surname Wight very well.
Actually I don’t think [name]Matilda[/name] is too much of a stretch to get to [name]Millie[/name]. [name]One[/name] nickname of [name]Matilda[/name] is [name]Tillie[/name] and [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Tillie[/name] are very close. Plus there is the added bonus that [name]Matilda[/name] starts with M.
I don’t really like [name]Milena[/name]. I can see its appeal but it’s just nms. I like [name]Matilda[/name] a lot but it just has a completely different feel from [name]Millie[/name]. [name]Millie[/name] doesn’t really feel like a diminutive of [name]Matilda[/name] they feel like completely different names.
I don’t think [name]Millie[/name] sounds too childish, sure it’s got the -ie ending but so do a lot of established names - [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Julie[/name], [name]Marie[/name] etc - and though I prefer the [name]Milly[/name] spelling and would use it as a nickname for [name]Emilia[/name] myself, I agree you shouldn’t use a full name you didn’t fully love. I’d use a longer, fuller name for the middle though, something like
Right now [name]Millie[/name] Wight is my favorite combination since Wight has a lot of meaning for me (which I explained in another thread when asking if it was wearable).
I like [name]Emilia[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]. [name]Matilda[/name] is great, too - as far as I’m concerned, if you want her to be [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name], it’ll happen! Some parents give nicknames that have nothing to do with full names, and they stick, no matter what. You get that power as a parent : )
Some middle names work with just about anything:
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Rae[/name]
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Millie[/name] [name]June[/name]
Other ideas:
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Ren[/name]é
[name]Millie[/name] [name]Jeanette[/name]
(all of those ended up being French names…I like the balance of [name]MIL[/name]-lie with a 2-syllable that emphasizes the last syllable. [name]MIL[/name]-lie re-NÉ, etc.)
