Are these bad names for twin boys?

My dear friend wants to name her twin boys [name]Robin[/name] and [name]Sparrow[/name]. She and husband asked for my opinion.

Personally I love [name]Robin[/name] and [name]Sparrow[/name], and I think they are very masculine.

However, I might be biased, because those names are associated with lovely childhood memories of mine.

[name]Do[/name] you think they are:

  1. Too feminine
  2. Too themed for twins

I have suggested using them as middle names, but they insisted on using them as first names.

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Robin[/name] on a boy. [name]Sparrow[/name], not so much. To me, they are not so feminine and could definitely work for twin boys!

Hmm… I definitely do not think they are too feminine. I don’t have good associations with [name]Robin[/name], so I’m personally biased with it, but I do love [name]Sparrow[/name]. But yes… I do think they are too themed. It is better than [name]Alex[/name] and [name]Alexis[/name] or [name]Jaden[/name] and [name]Jada[/name] for twins though!
,

I have known a bunch of [name]Robins[/name], only one who was male, and have yet to meet a [name]Sparrow[/name] irl. That aside, I’m not into cutesy themes for twins/siblings at all. To me, themes are more appropriate in trivial things like choosing decor for your home, rather than naming unique individual humans.

Yes to all of the above. She is just asking those poor boys to be teased.

I agree. And she’s sentencing herself to a lifetime of strange looks and whispered jokes from other people. I can just hear people going, “And if there was a triplet, he could’ve been Pigeon.” Plus these twins will be together their entire lives, always as a set- is it really appropriate to also make them half of an aviary?

That said, if they’re decided and love the names, congratulations to them. It’s a lot more important that their children are healthy and loved than what their names are.

Agree, too feminine and too matchy… [name]Don[/name]'t like at all!!!

I find [name]Sparrow[/name] a little to bit to feminine. Maybe, [name]Lark[/name]?

Too feminine, no (not [name]IMO[/name] anyway). Too themed, yesssss. Maybe for middle names?

They both sound masculine to me, but too matched in terms of both being birds. That said, [name]Sparrow[/name] is a little more “out there” than [name]Robin[/name], so in terms of obscurity, I don’t think they match.

I like the edenlyla13’s suggestion of [name]Lark[/name]. And how about [name]Finch[/name]?

OH WOW I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Robin[/name] & [name]Sparrow[/name] for boys, and I love themes for twins.

It’s a bit too theme-y for me. I think I’d like it better if it was a little more subtle - like one named [name]Hawthorne[/name] but called [name]Hawk[/name].

[name]Don[/name]'t name your boys bird names!!! Too much teasing potential - why risk it. ???

[name]Robin[/name] is a nice name, but then there’s the whole thing with Batman and [name]Robin[/name], [name]Robin[/name] wasn’t as manly as Batman.
[name]Sparrow[/name], doesn’t sound like a name, a middle name, sure! I did date a guy by the name [name]Jeremy[/name] [name]Sparrow[/name].

I see [name]Robin[/name] and [name]Sparrow[/name] as very feminine, and while they can work for boys, they will sound more feminine to people. Maybe a little too themey but if that’s what they like, so be it. I personally wouldn’t have the theme, if you give your opinion it would be good to warn them of the reaction they will probably get.

Is she naming children or parakeets? [name]Robin[/name] & [name]Sparrow[/name] is a dreadful idea!

[name]Robin[/name] is fine, but [name]Sparrow[/name] is too feminine, especially when paired with [name]Robin[/name]. Also, definitely too themey for me.

[name]Both[/name] do sound a bit feminine to me, although I’m sure I could get used to them… it’s the theme that bugs me. I do like the suggestion of [name]Finch[/name] though!

I think it is a bad idea and they will be made fun of :frowning:

I agree with most of the others. [name]Robin[/name] and [name]Sparrow[/name] (mostly [name]Sparrow[/name]) are too girly for me, and I think they’re way too matchy together–for siblings, not to mention twins.
