Are these boy or girl names?

As we work on our short list for our daughter, there are two names that keep coming up…[name]Aubrey[/name] and [name]Avery[/name].

I really love [name]Aubrey[/name] (possibly [name]Bree[/name] as a NN) and my husband really likes [name]Avery[/name]. But we both debate whether they are more masculine. What are your first reactions to these names? Our other daughters name is [name]Ella[/name], if that helps.

Thanks!

I would think both names would be girls if I went with first reaction.

I find [name]Aubrey[/name] more feminine out of the two, but I like [name]Avery[/name] better with [name]Ella[/name]. [name]Both[/name] could definitely be girls names though.

I have only met girls named [name]Aubrey[/name] and both boys and girls named [name]Avery[/name], though more girls have had the name [name]Avery[/name].
A lot of people who are not name nerds would probably be surprised to hear that [name]Aubrey[/name] is unisex.

[name]Both[/name] sound girly to me, but I prefer [name]Audrey[/name] over both

I know way boys named [name]Avery[/name] than girls. I prefer [name]Ava[/name] for girl.
[name]Aubrey[/name] is a masculine name, and I like it as such. I prefer [name]Audrey[/name] for a girl.

I have a guy friend whose mn is [name]Aubrey[/name] but I think it works on a girl as well

While I know that [name]Aubrey[/name] can be used on boys, I’ve only ever known girls with the name. I’ve never met anyone named [name]Avery[/name] but I think it works equally well for both boys and girls.

[name]Aubrey[/name] is ALL girl to me. [name]Avery[/name] is unisex. I used to love for a girl but I’m starting to liek it more for a boy.

I think [name]Aubrey[/name] originated as a boys name did it not? I thought I read that on nameberry somewhere. I’ve only met girl Aubreys so would find it hard to picture on a boy. [name]Avery[/name] is boy to me and its in my top 3 for a boy. I’ve never met any [name]Avery[/name]'s at all but I know lots of people say its ALL girl to them. I prefer it for a boy. I think of [name]Avery[/name] from [name]Charlotte[/name]'s web. His sister was [name]Fern[/name].

I’ve only known a male [name]Aubrey[/name] and I’ve heard [name]Avery[/name] on both but prefer it on boys. I guess [name]Aubrey[/name] could work better on a girl but there are so many male [name]Avery[/name]'s I’d assume it was a boy

They both work for girls.

I think that [name]Aubrey[/name] is more feminine, but as others have said, I prefer [name]Audrey[/name] over [name]Aubrey[/name].

I think [name]Aubrey[/name] has officially gone to the girls but [name]Avery[/name] still feels boy to me.

Nowadays, my first reaction would be “both feminine.” I do prefer [name]Auberon[/name] for boys instead of [name]Aubrey[/name].
