Are these names too matchy for twins?

In a story that’s half-formed in my head, there’s twin brothers who are extremely close. [name_m]Both[/name_m] incredibly smart, talented, and extroverted, but one more serious. Right now, the goofy one is [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and the serious one is [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]. Are [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] too themed to work well together?

Yikes. In real life I’d say yes, they’re far too closely matched; they’d just need a brother called [name_m]Beau[/name_m] to complete the set  For a story I think it’s fine.

I don’t even think it’s fine for a story. Those are the types of twin names that would make me huff and set the book down. [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] now only rhyme but a [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] makes arrows >.<

And Renrose…lol!

I think they are a bit matchy. What about
[name_m]Connor[/name_m]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]

They are really matchy and they rhyme.

I think it depends on the story. Maybe it’s okay that they match.
Maybe theor parents liked that, or maybe they were both named after someone, or maybe both parents decided on a name, and this is what they came up with.

It depends on the story you are telling.
I like the names [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]…

I agree with [name_f]Calista[/name_f] that it depends on the story.

[name_f]Fantasy[/name_f] setting, where children are named something to do with their parents’ jobs - and one makes arrows for a living - usable.
Contemporary setting, where the parents just like surname names - a bit too matchy.
Contemporary setting, where the parents named them after both grandparents’ maiden names, which coincidentally happened to be related - usable.

I also think nicknames would help set them apart - [name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_m]Fletch[/name_m] aren’t quite as matchy, so if you had them go by nicknames it’s more workable.

i like the fact that their names match in meanings but rhyming is a bit too much for me, even in a book. Maybe you can consider taking out the `erˊin one of them? they will still match without overwhelming.

Too matchy! It would annoy people no matter the setting of the story [name_f]IMO[/name_f]
