Are these names too mismatched?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!
I love the idea of [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] in a sibset, however, I’m not sure if they’re stylistically similar enough - and they both end with n.
I’d want to call them [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] most of the time which feels a lot more cohesive.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] work well enough together in a sibset?

I’m not overly focused on cohesiveness in a set, but also [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] looks a lot more long and sprawling than [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], making her better suited in my opinion to something like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] (Tess), [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (Josie), or [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] (Rose). But honestly, as my favorite name, [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is non-negotiable so she’s not going anywhere :joy:

[name_f]Do[/name_f] they work well enough together? (And don’t feel horrifically mismatched)

Thank you!

[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] are fantastic together! With [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] the matching -n ending, especially because -lyn and -lian sound quite similar, bugs me but not enough to be a dealbreaker and the style and lengths go fine together to me so it gets a thumbs up from me :+1:

I have a preference for cohesive sets, and to me they do seem quite mismatched stylistically. [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] as standalones are more suited to the same sibset imo!

[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] seems more embellished and has more “whimsy” for lack of better description atm, while [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] seems more straightforward, clean cut, and “proper.” Imagery-wise they differ a lot for me as well. I also wouldn’t have them in the same set because they sound a bit too similar.

If cohesiveness isn’t your main priority and you love the names enough, I’d say go for it anyway! I can’t think of any actual issues that would give them trouble in the same set. :slightly_smiling_face:

I actually think they have quite similar vibes and go well stylistically, but sound a bit too similar for my own personal taste (I think they’re usable together though).

Stylistically, they work fine together! Gwen and Jill are darling! If that is what you will call them anyway, why not just go with Gwen and Jill as full names?

This actually bothers me more than style (I have a weird thing about name lengths, though. I am convinced I will never actually use Christopher because it looks so gosh darn long.)

I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] would work fantastically well together, especially with [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] as the nns. While they are a little different stylistically, they do share the same kind of familiar-yet-uncommon for this generation feel.

I don’t think they’re that mismatched! I think [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is better with something like [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] (a fellow familiar but not popular name) than with something like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (a traditional more popular name).

I love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f]! I’d love to use [name_f]Jill[/name_f] as a standalone, but terrified that she’d hate it, and wish she had a longer name like [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] or [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] that gives her more options. But just [name_f]Jill[/name_f] is something I adore!!

I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] + [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] work they are both unexpected classics that feel elegant and refined. I would say [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] feels more whimsical and has this medieval princess warrior feel whereas [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] is more 1950s selling cloudy lemonade in a polka dot dress. I would say [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] is more [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] esque. However I do not think cohesion is very important it’s more important to use a name you love!

I care a lot about cohesiveness in sets, and they don’t seem mismatched to me at all.

[name_f]Gwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jill[/name_f] are perfectly matched. I think [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] work as a sibset, because I don’t think names have to match. But I think they have completely different styles, [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] feels ethereal/whimsical and medieval. I’m thinking of [name_f]Merida[/name_f] from the movie [name_u]Brave[/name_u]. And [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] feels relatively modern, very 70s-80s. I imagine [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] to be a woman in her forties-fifties.

[name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] work for me - if I saw them as a sibset, they’d be surprising, but I mean, they’d both surprise me, so they work in my head?

Oooo, Gwendolyn & Juliet are pretty!

What about just [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]? They don’t both have to be either full or shortened, and to me [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] feels like a full name, I wouldn’t have thought of it as a nickname name like [name_f]Jill[/name_f] or [name_f]Jilly[/name_f]. [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] would be super cute sisters! They give off a similar vibe to me.

They are! But I really don’t like [name_u]Jules[/name_u] as a nickname and [name_f]Jillian[/name_f] lends a lot more easily to [name_f]Jill[/name_f] than any of the Jul names :smiling_face_with_tear:
