[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and are composing a list of names and are worried because we both like very classic/biblical names for firsts and family names for middle. That the names are too plain as we have a pretty ordinary last name which is Edwards. It doesn’t really bother me too much except that someone close mentioned that they’re very boring and they cannot imagine these names on a child. but we like them because they age well on people on all ages and they are not super popular or trendy that they are tied to a particular time eg [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] and [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] 80s to 90s etc and less likely to have double ups in school etc Feedback would be great if you can give any.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with your names! That person, I’m sorry to say, was being kind of rude. She/he may think they’re boring but that absolutely does not mean that they are or that they can’t work as a name. I like almost all your names and find them interesting to boot (I love [name_m]Paul[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] & [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] :)) They have a rich history, a tonne of interesting namesakes behind them and, like you said, won’t become dated, unlike ‘interestingly’ named Nevvaeeeuh or Rhilee. Honestly, I find trying to be ridiculously unusual with your baby names to be one of the most boring things going
Ok, [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] are totally opposite of boring! They are so cool and I love those names! [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathon[/name_m], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] aren’t boring either, they’re just not my style. If I could make my own combos out of your names, the two I would do would be [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m] Edwards and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] Edwards.
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] Edwards might get flack for having a similar name as a disgraced politician, though I much prefer it to [name_m]Paul[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. The girls’ choices are better–love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]!
With such a common last name, I agree you shouldn’t choose very common first names like [name_m]William[/name_m] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It just turns into what I call a “[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] name.” Odd but I have trouble remembering which famous person with the last name [name_m]Smith[/name_m]/[name_m]Jones[/name_m]/etc. is which! (e.g. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m], is that the politician or the author? oh right the author- the politician is [name_m]Mike[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]!) I could imagine myself having that problem with people I know too, but this is probably not common…
That being said- I don’t think any of your names are common at all! They may feel common because they’ve been in use for a long time, but none of the names are super popular right now except [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] being close to [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I don’t think I’ve met a baby or child by any of these names for awhile. I especially love [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. But they’re classics that will never date- they’ll never feel trendy nor out of style.
There was also an British Olympic athlete called [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] Edwards. I don’t know of half these people until I google them. don’t think it’ll be a big deal in Australia.
