I have a few names on my short list and my long list for boys that are… quite out there? (especially for where I live.)
[name]Do[/name] you think these are usable:
[name]Abraxas[/name]
[name]Luciano[/name]
[name]Macario[/name] (ma KAR ee oh)
[name]Marco[/name]
[name]Calder[/name]
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Amadeus[/name]
[name]Nazario[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Gage[/name]
[name]Bronx[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
Well, of course I don’t know where you live, but I personally would only use the following as first names:
[name]Marco[/name]
[name]Abram[/name] (or just [name]Bram[/name]?)
[name]Arlo[/name] (I love [name]Arlo[/name], but my mother told me it sounds like the noise a whale makes…it’s kind of lost the appeal for me now, but I definitely want someone else to use it)
[name]Abraxas[/name]- hmm, it is out there but, I LIKE it. I’m sure if it’s useable, however.
[name]Luciano[/name]- I could see both sides of this. People are starting to gravitate toward softer boys names, so [name]Luciano[/name] could fit right in. On the other hand, he may be too unheard of.
[name]Macario[/name] (ma KAR ee oh)- Easy to pronounce and spell. Yes, I think this is useable, although it would work best if you are of Hispanic descent.
[name]Marco[/name]- Useable. I know a [name]Marcos[/name], so why not [name]Marco[/name]?
[name]Calder[/name]- I think that with the more frequent surnames-used-as-first-names and ending-in-er names [name]Calder[/name] would work well.
[name]Abram[/name]- Yes, useable in my opinion.
[name]Amadeus[/name]- I love this and think it would be adorable on a little boy. It would work best if you are a fan of the composer, I think.
[name]Nazario[/name]- I don’t think the world is ready for this one yet.
[name]Arlo[/name]- Useable, older boys names are roaring back into use!
[name]Gage[/name]- I like it. Shorter boys names and names in general are on the rise. I think it would fit right in with all the Jacks and Mays.
[name]Bronx[/name]- Mmm…I don’t know. I think you would always get a lot of comments on this name.
[name]Dashiell[/name]- I’ve seen this popping up more and more on the message boards and, though I’m not a fan, I believe it to be useable.
Lastly, I’d say go for whichever name you love, despite other’s opinions!
[name]Marco[/name], [name]Calder[/name], [name]Abram[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], [name]Gage[/name], and [name]Dashiell[/name] are the easiest to swallow. The others I think are best relegated to middle-name status.
In my opinion [name]Marco[/name], [name]Calder[/name], [name]Amadeus[/name], [name]Bronx[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] are usable. [name]Luciano[/name] is usable if you’re Italian, [name]Macario[/name] if you’re Hispanic. [name]Arlo[/name] would be a cute nickname for [name]Alfred[/name] or something else but doesn’t stand alone. [name]Gage[/name] just makes me think of the textbook company or a temperature gauge. [name]Abraxas[/name] and [name]Nazario[/name] are a bit too much for me.
[name]Abraxas[/name] - I like it. [name]May[/name] get comments but usable [name]IMO[/name]
[name]Marco[/name] - Usable
[name]Calder[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! Very usable.
[name]Abram[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it! [name]Bram[/name] is cool too!
[name]Amadeus[/name] - People use [name]Wolfgang[/name] so why not [name]Amadeus[/name], but I think of the composer
[name]Arlo[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name too!
[name]Gage[/name] - Perfectly usable, but it always looks misspelled to me.
[name]Bronx[/name] - [name]IMO[/name], no - Very trendy
[name]Dashiell[/name] - This one is growing on me. Usable
I did some thinking about these names since there seems to be an “ethnic” reaction to these. I see people using Nordic names, Greek names, French names, all sorts of names used by all sorts of people. Why not use these perfectly good names if you like them. Why would I even separate them from [name]Marco[/name], which seems perfectly usable by anyone.
[name]Luciano[/name] - Good name
[name]Macario[/name] (ma KAR ee oh) - I like this, though I never heard it before. nn [name]Mac[/name], [name]Cary[/name]?
[name]Nazario[/name] - The z sound is cool but it seems like [name]Noel[/name]/[name]Noelle[/name] to me - a “seasonal” name
I like weird names so most of these are completely usable in my book
[name]Abraxas[/name]- I had to google because it seemed familiar but I wasn’t sure why. It’s the name a [name]Santana[/name] album! I love [name]Santana[/name] plus apparently “the 7 letters spelling its name represent each of the 7 classic planets—[name]Sun[/name], [name]Moon[/name], [name]Mercury[/name], [name]Venus[/name], [name]Mars[/name], [name]Jupiter[/name], and [name]Saturn[/name]” so I’m really liking it. Brax is a cute nn
[name]Calder[/name]- I like it because it reminds me of caldera. There’s also a race track here called [name]Calder[/name]
[name]Nazario[/name]- not a fan but [name]Navarro[/name] is a family name
These are normal to me
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Gage[/name]
[name]Bronx[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
I think they are mostly all useable, though some I like a lot and others not so much.
[name]Abraxas[/name]- I like this name in theory, however it does sound a little abrasive. I’d be unusable for me.
[name]Luciano[/name]- I really like this name. I prefer [name]Lucian[/name], but [name]Luciano[/name] is great too. And there’s a great reggae artist named [name]Luciano[/name], which is a nice association for me. And it’s got a great meaning, which is something I always look for.
[name]Macario[/name]- It’s usable. But I’m not a big fan. Sounds like what it would be called if [name]Mario[/name] was doing the macarena. Or sounds like the name of a NASCAR race or something.
[name]Marco[/name]- Usable, without a doubt, though I prefer the name [name]Marcus[/name]. It’s a pretty solid name though.
[name]Calder[/name]- I like this name quite a lot (Alder is cool too). Feels laid-back and friendly.
[name]Abram[/name]- Not such a fan of this name, though it is usable. Sounds like a chopped off version of [name]Abraham[/name].
[name]Amadeus[/name]- This was on my own list for awhile. I think it’d make for a great middle name, but perhaps a little pretentious for a first name. [name]Amias[/name] is a somewhat similar sounding/feeling name that would be a wonderful choice.
[name]Nazario[/name]-Doesn’t seem usable to me.
[name]Arlo[/name]- I’ve grown to like this name a lot. It’s got a friendly feel to it. Would be a great name.
[name]Gage[/name]- Usable, but I strongly dislike it. Sounds like it should be the name of a WWE wrestler.
[name]Bronx[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like this as a first name at all. Not even slightly. Might work as a middle name if you have some kind of strong connection to the place (or to the roots of hip-hop culture, which started there).
[name]Dashiell[/name]- I used to like this name, but I don’t like it as much anymore. Feels a little harsh to my ear now. It’s definitely usable though.
Thanks for all of the replies! It seems that you all have the same thoughts as me, really. I love the names soo much but I’m unsure whether they are ‘too much’ for real life. The ethnic thing is a concern for me too, most of them have an ethnic background that has nothing to do with me at all. I’m english and have no background from any other country as far as I’m aware (apart from [name]Ireland[/name]).
I do like more ‘normal’ names too so maybe they would be best for when I actually get around to having children which isn’t for a long time anyway.
