My husband and I are set on [name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name] for a boy, and [name]Arlo[/name] [name]June[/name] for a girl (all family names). Are [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] too similar to be siblings, or is it cute?
I find myself leaning towards it being kind of cute, and our last name starts with a P, so is a refreshing change of sound after the heavy A sound.
We are 100% set on [name]Archer[/name], but keep going between [name]Arlo[/name] [name]June[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] for a girl. Is using [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name] too occupation-themed?
I think [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Archer[/name] sound very matchy. If you’re wary of similar-sounding names, I would go with [name]Sailor[/name] instead. (But a girl named [name]Arlo[/name] would be cool!)
They are very similar for siblings; personally I don’t care for matching sounds and initials.
I think [name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name] is a good name; [name]Archer[/name] is becoming trendy but it still sounds fresh.
You doubtless know that [name]Arlo[/name] is an exclusively male name. It has some homonymy with [name]Harlow[/name], which is perhaps why you’re thinking of it for your daughter. If [name]Arlo[/name] is a family name, have you thought about it for a son? [name]Arlo[/name] [name]James[/name] is a great name.
[name]Sailor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] sounds like one of the scouts on [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name]. I think [name]Sailor[/name] is a rather frivolous name, unless the sea/sailing/navigating has special meaning for your family. But to pair it with a one-syllable middle name is cruel because it is exactly like the well-known cartoon. And yes, even if you switched up the middle, [name]Sailor[/name] and [name]Archer[/name] are still too similar.
For your daughter, did you think about [name]Harlow[/name] [name]June[/name]? [name]Marlowe[/name] [name]June[/name]? [name]Indigo[/name]? [name]Juno[/name] itself?
I do think [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] are too similar. Maybe you could be interested in [name]Harlow[/name], [name]Marlo[/name], or [name]Sparrow[/name] instead?
FWIW, I think [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name] are too occupation themed, but I much prefer the themey-ness of [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name] to the too-matchiness of [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name].
I don’t think its too matchy! [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] sound really cute together!!
I like the name [name]Sailor[/name] a lot too, but I don’t think [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Sailor[/name] mesh very well! I say if you like [name]Arlo[/name], go for it!
I don’t care for the set of [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] because 1)they sound too similar, 2)they don’t distinguish the genders of the siblings, and 3)they are not compatible in style.
I agree with blade on [name]Sailor[/name]. The name evokes the cartoon too strongly and is rather trifling. Though I find it jaunty and cute, I don’t think it holds much promise for the adult the little girl will become.
I like [name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name], and [name]June[/name] is clean and fresh. I think you need to go back to the family archives and search a bit more for inspiration for your girls name.
I don’t think that [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] sound too matchy, I actually like them a lot together. As for the fact that [name]Arlo[/name] is traditionally used for boys- I’m all for being daring with boys names turned girls names. I think its a cool and fresh concept, as long as you’re okay with correcting people on her gender. I hope this doesn’t ruin the name for you, but my dog’s name is [name]Arlo[/name] and we call him [name]Arlee[/name] ([name]Arley[/name]? [name]Arlie[/name]? Rhymes with [name]Marley[/name]) all the time, which may be a more feminine nn for your baby girl. I really love [name]June[/name] as a mn for [name]Arlo[/name] as well, super cute! More power to ya for pushing the boundaries of gendered names! I love it
