Are these sibling names too similar?

Our sons name is [name_u]Emory[/name_u] ([name_f]Em[/name_f]-uh-ree).

For our daughters name we are both set on and love the name Ellora (Eh-lor-a).

They look similar with the “E” and “or” when spelt, but sound very different when spoken.
Are they too similar to be used as siblings?

They are a bit matchy but not unusable. The biggest problem I foresee is if you shorten the names when talking to your kids you might end up with ‘[name_f]Elle[/name_f]’ & ‘[name_f]Em[/name_f]’ but that wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me.

I don’t think they’re too similar, great if your cool with “matchy” sibling names. Another user mentioned the nn issue, but I think that just depends on what you call both of them most of the time

I think they work fine together. The only similarity is the E beginning.

Yes, thanks for mentioning that. Her nickname would likely be [name_f]Elle[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Middle name will be [name_f]Grace[/name_f]… so other nickname might end up being [name_f]Gracie[/name_f].

What is your son’s nickname. Because if he goes my [name_f]Em[/name_f] and your daughter goes by [name_f]Elle[/name_f] it might be a little confusing but other wise I think that [name_u]Emory[/name_u] and Ellora are perfectly fine for siblings the only obvious thing is that they both start with E. I grew up with 6 of ours sharing the same initials and I was fine with it. It just makes it easier to pass things like school supplies between siblings.

I agree with this. To me they are both great names, but I would definitely take into account what nn you use for your son and what you may use for your daughter. Maybe using [name_u]Ori[/name_u] would for your daughter would make a difference, if not already being used for your son.

They definitely look very matchy, though you’re right they don’t see to have any issue sound-wise. They actually sound quite lovely together. Maybe you could use the spelling [name_f]Alora[/name_f] instead? [name_u]Emory[/name_u] and [name_f]Alora[/name_f] look distinctly different but complement each other well.

Ok so plenty of people are a little Matchy when they name their kids. I think the names are very pretty together. It’s not like they are [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_f]Dina[/name_f]. On paper your two names look very similar however out loud they sound cohesive but distinct.

Thanks! I’ve definitely considered [name_f]Alora[/name_f], but for some reason it looks like [name_f]Aloha[/name_f] to me. I also prefer the nickname [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] to [name_u]Allie[/name_u].

I think they’re a bit matchy but not unusable! Ellora is lovely!

They look similar on paper but not that much when said aloud. I’d say go for it.

I don’t think they are too similar.

They don’t sounds similar at all to me. I think they make a cute sibset.
