Are they too strange?

I have a lot of names that I love but I’m not sure they go with my two kids names that are not quite as unheard of ([name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f]) Tell me your opinions of these names. We’re ttc number 3. Our leading choices for boys are [name_m]Knox[/name_m], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u].

[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_u]Junot[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

I think I’m really loving [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] right now. What does everyone think of that name?

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is actually quite popular where I live (Germany) so I don’t think it strange at all! Others from your list that strike me as less “strange” are: [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (family name of mine), [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Veda[/name_f]. The others seem more out there but that doesn’t mean they aren’t usable!

Well I live in the land of [name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Emma[/name_f]/[name_f]Emily[/name_f]/[name_f]Lily[/name_f]/[name_u]Haley[/name_u]/[name_f]Katie[/name_f] so they are all names I’ve never personally heard used, haha. You don’t think [name_f]Veda[/name_f] is strange? I have only ever heard it in the movie [name_f]My[/name_f] Girl.

I think [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is so cute! I personally know little girls named [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Amalie[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Indigo[/name_f], and [name_f]Maple[/name_f]. I live in NYC so maybe that’s why but I honestly don’t think any of them are too out there. I could imagine hearing any of these names yelled across the playground and not cringing and/or smirking to myself because they sound ridiculous.
From your list my favorites, besides [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], are [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_u]Junot[/name_u], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Indigo[/name_f], and [name_f]Olive[/name_f].

Some of these names are more uncommon but I don’t think they are unusable per say. These are the names I think people would find more unusual:
[name_u]Junot[/name_u]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is a very nice name.

I think [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] are lovely.

I like most names on your list, but I like my names a little more different.

That being said, I think the most trouble is matching your new names with your children’s names, not that they’re ‘too strange’! Also, [name_m]Knox[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] sound very matchy matchy…I might try to discourage you not to use [name_m]Knox[/name_m]! Of your top boys, I think [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] fits in the best.

As for your girls list, I like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] (but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] both start with L, if you don’t care, I don’t either but it’s something to be aware of) [name_f]Olive[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Greer[/name_f], but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is a little more girly and feminine, [name_f]Greer[/name_f] doesn’t pull that same image for me. I also adore [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] with your children, but not [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]. Have you considered [name_u]Wynn[/name_u] (or any other variant) with nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]?

[name_f]Maple[/name_f]- I do like this, and it’s not too far out there.
[name_u]Junot[/name_u]- [name_f]JUNO[/name_f] is usable, but [name_u]Junot[/name_u] is a bit strange. If it is pronounced like [name_f]Juno[/name_f], she’ll forever be correcting people.
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]- I absolutely adore this!
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]- I think that with your other names, it’s a little too much. It also seems very boyish to me, especially with sister [name_f]Lila[/name_f].
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]- I think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] are a little too similar.
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]- Beautiful! [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] has that feeling as if she’s already a good friend of yours.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]- I love this, but with [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f], it’s a little bit over the top.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- I’ve never really seen the appeal in this. That said, it’s not too uncommon.
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]- Definitely too strange in this sibset.
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]- Beautiful! I love it.
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]- I like [name_u]Auden[/name_u] better, but [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is cute.
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f]- I love this nn [name_f]Indie[/name_f]! I dun’t know about with [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]- It’s very cute! I like the sibset [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], and [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]- Not my favorite. It reminds me of Darth Vadar and [name_f]Velma[/name_f] from Scooby Doo.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]- I don’t like this much, but it’s definitely not too out there.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Lux[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]. I absolutely adore [name_f]Olive[/name_f] with your sibset.

I like [name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], and…

[name_f]Maple[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

These I thinkk would flow the best (However I am not a stickler for names going together) Would you consider [name_f]Leona[/name_f] as opposed to [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]?

Usable:
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

Too Weird:
[name_f]Maple[/name_f]- Syrup
[name_u]Junot[/name_u]- I’m not sure how to pronounce it and it doesn’t look feminine to me.
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]- I’ve used it for a character, but I don’t think it is usable for a real person.
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]- I see this as a boys name. I couldn’t see it on a real boy anyway
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]- I actually know a girl with this name, but I still think it is weird since it is a spice.
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f]- it is a color.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]- a food.
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]- I guess you could use it, but I think it is too weird.

Have you considered [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] for a girl? I have met girls with this name, actually more often than boys.

[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Veda[/name_f] – love [name_f]Veda[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s that different, but even if it is it has the same sound and tone as [name_f]Ada[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f], which are warmly welcomed. So I think [name_f]Veda[/name_f] fits right in, just with a little good quirk.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] – best overall match considering the familiarity of all names.
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] & [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]

I think these ones work best with your subset. I enjoy [name_f]Maple[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f], but it’s a bit of a big step away from [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] seem to clash with [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

[name_u]Winslow[/name_u], [name_f]Greer[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f], [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], deviate a bit.

I actually know two girls named [name_f]Indigo[/name_f] and a Talulah. I don’t think any of them are “too strange” though some may raise eyebrows from more conservative namers. From your list my favorites are [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Greer[/name_f], [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].

[name_f]Maple[/name_f]- not a huge fan
[name_u]Junot[/name_u]- prefer [name_f]Juno[/name_f] as a spelling.
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]- it’s pretty but it also seems like the name of a high priced escort
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u]- not for a girl, please
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]- pretty. can’t dissociate from [name_f]Demi[/name_f] [name_m]Moore[/name_m]'s daughter
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]- adore this name (because of [name_m]Ab[/name_m] Fab), but not sure it’s really ideal for a child
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]- pretty.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]- pretty
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]- makes me think of snotty prep school girls
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]- kind of lovely
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]- I dig it
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f]- a bit hippie for my tastes
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]- pretty
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]- makes me think of “[name_f]My[/name_f] Girl”
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]- pretty

Pleaaaase use [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]!!! I may never have a girl (I have 2 boys) and that is an amazing name :)) hardly anyone uses it so it’s a gem!!

I can tell some of you must come from different places just based on which names you perceive as strange or not, haha! But, thanks for all of the response. Someone said [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] were extremely common but I actually don’t hear those names where I live often, so keep that in mind. Also, yes [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] would be called [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

[name_m]Knox[/name_m], [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] - (To be honest I think these names are nice but very overused these days. I know so many babies called [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] it’s not funny…it’s weird how trends catch on so fast and an unpopular name can become famous in a matter of months)

[name_f]Maple[/name_f] - (It reminds me of Marple which makes me think of a nursing home or retirement village  )
[name_u]Junot[/name_u] - ([name_m]Don[/name_m]'t even know how to pronounce this…[name_u]JUNE[/name_u]-ott? )
[name_f]Lux[/name_f] - ([name_f]My[/name_f] favourite character on a TV show but it depends on the person. I couldn’t imagine anyone I know suiting that name)
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u] - (It’s okay but sounds unisex and I really don’t like unisex names. Plus I hate the name [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] which probably comes as a nn for this one)
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] - (Reminds me of a pink tutu or a crazy character on some kids cartoon…so not my style)
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] - (I like this but would prefer [name_u]Sage[/name_u]…to me [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] is my friend’s beloved guinea pig)
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - (Getting better lol but i pretty much only like the ending)
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - (Nope, name of the worst teacher in my life. It is pretty though I must admit, though I’d never use it.)
[name_f]Greer[/name_f] - (This is a name?..)
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - (It is alright…doesn’t really stand out to me)
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] - (Finally! I loove this name and would use it myself if I wasn’t too worried about seeing my daughter as an elf lol. Such a beautiful name.)
[name_f]Indigo[/name_f] - (Pretty! I find it nicer than [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] or even [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] which are getting popular these days)
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - (A nice change to the popular [name_f]Olivia[/name_f])
[name_f]Veda[/name_f] - (Never heard of this one but I like it!)
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - ([name_f]Adore[/name_f] this! So much more sophisticated than [name_f]Emily[/name_f]…and the spelling is gorgeous. It’s also not that difficult to pronounce)

Wow sorry for the negative comments in the beginning lol but they just weren’t my style…towards the end they got nicer though. I guess that’s the cool thing about names, they are totally chosen on opinion. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is definitely [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] but I also adore [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].
By the way [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] are awesome names!! I’ve had a name crush on [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (I like it spelt [name_f]Lyla[/name_f]) since I heard it on the movie ‘[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Rush[/name_m]’.

You’ve got some great choices. I don’t have a particular favorite, but I think having a name with an L would be a sweet tie to all of the sibling names!

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] are very nice names, good job.

  • [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]…[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is a sweet nickname that I think would sound great with [name_f]Lila[/name_f], what about [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] / [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] instead?
  • [name_f]Indigo[/name_f]… you may like [name_f]Indira[/name_f] nn [name_f]Indy[/name_f]?
  • [name_f]Maple[/name_f]… you may also like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]? Which fits with [name_f]Lila[/name_f] nicely I think
  • [name_u]Junot[/name_u]… personally I think [name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Junie[/name_f] would be so sweet with [name_f]Lila[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]… don’t really flow with your other names, you may like [name_u]Sage[/name_u]?
  • [name_f]Leonie[/name_f]… very cute, I can see why you like it! If the “L” beginning bothers you you might also like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
  • [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]… pretty and fits nicely
  • [name_f]Veda[/name_f]… don’t fit, but [name_f]Vera[/name_f] might?

Good luck!

With [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f], I would choose…

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
