Are they usable IRL?

The topic pretty much says it all, are these names usable [name_m]IRL[/name_m] or are they just names that should stay on my swoon list?

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
Chrysanta
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] (LN starts with L)

If so how would you pair them up? What would you name their sister or their brother?

I think so. Though I like the bottom two best. [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] is beautiful but reminds me of a disease. And I bet Chrysanta gets called “[name_f]Chrys[/name_f]”.

If you go with [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]… I actually [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] alliterative names. Too bad my last name is J and I hate most J names!

I think [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] are the two usable ones. I think Chrysanta takes too much effort to pronounce and I just couldn’t ever imagine a child called [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f]. That is the one that reminds me of a disease lol

I think [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] would sound find with an L last name, as long as it’s not another ‘Lav’ name!

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is extremely usable. [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] is usable but perhaps not the most versatile. I’m iffy on [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] and Chrysanta. They just feel more like sci-fi characters than real people.

LOL. Thanks ladies.

I never really thought of [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] and Chrysanta sounding like diseases but I can definitely see where that could come from.

Our last name is close to Longmoore so it’s not exactly the LAV sound but close. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you still think it could work? What would you put in the middle spot to break up the L’s?

The other flower name that I really like is [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] with a NN [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. What would you use as a NN for [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] and [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]?

After thought: Could [name_f]Mary[/name_f] work for [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]?

I think each of the names could work. I suggest the middle spot, though. [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] is the most usable one in my opinion, followed by [name_f]Lavender[/name_f].

Random example: (with random, plain names, just to give you a feel)
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] [Longmoore]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [Longmoore]
[name_u]Julie[/name_u] Chrysanta [Longmore]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] [Longmoore]

Thank you for responding MayMayMay but I really was looking for which ones would work in the FN spot. MN are taken by [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] or any form of those two.

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is a great name!

I wouldn’t have thought [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] would work until I met one in real life…now it sounds completely normal to me!
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as a nickname, though, because it doesn’t sound anything like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] when you say it. The [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] I know sometimes goes by [name_f]Ama[/name_f].

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] I would probably NN Lissy, [name_f]Mara[/name_f] or Ryli. I’m not a huge fan of “[name_f]Mary[/name_f],” I think it’s very, very dated.

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] I would probably go with no NN (because Lav reminds me of this creepy old man who used to live next door). But I don’t think this one needs a NN at all. You might be able to push [name_u]Avi[/name_u] or Veri?

And I think [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] Longmoore is fine. Some alliterative names are adorable, this is one of them.

With your middle names I like:

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] Longmoore – This is darling. I love double middle names and this one just sounds amazing together.

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] Longmoore – Beautiful.

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] and [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] are both very usable and very beautiful (swooning over [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]).

I think Chrysanta looks weird, and [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] makes me think of Keeping Up Appearances ([name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] Bucket, anyone?)

[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] - unfortunately it reminds me of ‘Is this the way to Amarillo?’, sorry :S
Chrysanta - I think this is quite nice ad pretty, it could be an alternative/update to [name_f]Christina[/name_f] and all the other myriad of [name_u]Chris[/name_u]- names
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] - have you seen Keeping Up Appearances? I can only think of [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] Bucket
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] (LN starts with L) - I do like [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], I actually have a friend with it as a surname which I’ve always thought was pretty cool! Only problem is your surname starts with an L. Although alliteration is not for me personally I wouldn’t mind it as much with a ‘normal’ name, e.g. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] or [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m], but I think that when the name is more unusual it starts sounding less like an actual person and more like a comic book character

I have never seen Keeping Up Appearances but I assume this is a negative connection. I’ll have to check it out.

I do like Lavender, alot, but I am worried about the aliteration especially if some people are going to see it as a character name or worse a stripper name.

The other names we have on our list for girls are Magnolia and Violet, my husband also really likes Camellia (not sure on pronunciation) but I’m not sure if it is too matchy matchy with Magnolia because of the ending.

What do you ladies think? We were thinking Maggie as a NN for Magnolia, Cami as a NN for Camelia and Vi for Violet.

Let me put it like this, [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] Routledge is hilarious as [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] Bucket (pronounced Bouquet!), but [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] definitely isn’t the kind of character you would want to name your child after. I can recommend this video

LOL. Yeah I can see what you mean. [name_m]Matt[/name_m], DH, has ruled out [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] he looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested it. He’s okay with [name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f] with the NN [name_f]Mara[/name_f] but would only use the name [name_f]Mara[/name_f] and I don’t see the point of using a name unless you’re actually going to use it.

I love the Keeping Up Appearances references mentioned above! [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f], while I do think is useable, will also always be [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] Bucket to me.

As for the new additions to your list, I really like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (there is also a [name_f]Violet[/name_f] in Keeping Up Appearances- the sisters’ names are [name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]) with the nicknames [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Vi[/name_f]. [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] is also pretty, but I don’t really care for the name [name_f]Cami[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Milly[/name_f] or [name_f]Lia[/name_f]?

Ooo I really like [name_f]Milly[/name_f].
