Are Violet and Oliver too similar?

Are [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] too similar to use together? [name]True[/name], they share 5 out of 6 letters, but they are arranged differently and produce different sounds.”What do you think?

We are expecting triplets, and the third baby’s name would be [name]Phoebe[/name]. They are joining big sis [name]Gwendolen[/name]. [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]? What do you think? Too similar? Doable?”

Thanks,”

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Julia[/name]!

I keep going back and forth on this one. I love both names separately, but together? I think they are definately doable, they start differently and end differently, they just share letters. And, like you said, they produce different sounds. [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] make a great sibset! [name]Gwen[/name], Phoebes, [name]Vi[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name]? I say if you love both names, go for it!

[name]Hope[/name] this helps, good luck!

Doable.

[name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] are fine together! I think it’s kind of neat that they all share an “o” and yet each one is unique and ends differently. Great choices! All the best!

They are certainly compatible names in terms of style – the triplets’ names work together and also go with [name]Gwendolen[/name]. It’s mainly when I’m looking at them written down beside each other that my eyes swim a bit. They are nearly anagrams of each other and I do feel a little bit like they’re too involved, like a clever bit in a storybook. I’m sure this is what’s bothering you. Are there any other names you’re considering?

I guess the bottom line is: Doable, definitely, but if there was an alternative that stepped more neatly to one side, that might be better.

Doable? Yea. Ideal? I don’t know. Probably, no. I waver. [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] don’t really sound alike at all, which is definitely the plus. Stylistically, they compliment one another beautifully. It’s just, from an aesthetic perspective, they are, as [name]Pam[/name] mentions, nearly anagrams. They share all but one letter with one another. If you were expecting twins, [name]Julia[/name], I really wouldn’t question this at all. It’s just the question of that one “odd kid out” in [name]Phoebe[/name]…

[name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Oliver[/name] are really lovely, sound-wise, though.

[name]Lemon[/name]

I’d also suggest [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Christopher[/name] ([name]Chris[/name], [name]Topher[/name])? [name]Nathaniel[/name] ([name]Nate[/name], [name]Nat[/name], [name]Natty[/name], [name]Niel[/name]) and [name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nick[/name], [name]Nico[/name], [name]Cole[/name]) are really the only other ones I can think of beyond that, honestly, to fit what you’re looking for. But, if you love [name]Oliver[/name]…

I think they’re great together. I don’t think anyone will notice they are near anagrams (my son’s 6 letter name is 1 letter off from an anagram of his last name and not one person has ever noticed – I actually think it’s cute, and I’m not into “cute” naming things). They sound different. Finally, adding in [name]Phoebe[/name] to the mix (love that name) will stop people from overanalyzing the two names anyway.

I think [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] are fantastic together! They are so complimentary, in feeling/vibe, spelling, and style that I think they would make a perfect sibset/twin set. However, I think as far as triplets go, [name]Pheobe[/name] would be the odd lady out next to [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]. They are in no way TOO similar to use together, however with [name]Phoebe[/name] in the mix, they feel more similar, and [name]Phoebe[/name] looks out of place.

This may not have made ANY sense! Sorry, if so! But by the way, [name]Gwendolen[/name] is such a beautiful name!!

Thanks for all the responses so far. The consensus is pretty much what I expected - doable, but not ideal.

[name]Do[/name] you think people would even notice? [name]Non[/name]-name-nerds, I mean. My husband thinks it’s the stupidest thing in the world to worry about names sharing too many letters. What do you think?

There are some other names we’re considering, but we can’t seem to agree on and don’t seem to love any other names. We’ll have to think about it more but, at this point, I think we’ll end up using them together. Of course, we may have 2 boys and then this whole conversation will be pointless!

[name]Hi[/name]!

My suspicion is that noticing by non-name-nerds = never-to-infrequently.

All best!

I agree with your husband. I really don’t think people will notice and I think all three names go together well. What would matter is if the names had the same sounds, but they don’t. So I really don’t think it matters.

I don’t think they are too similar atall, I very much doubt non-name nerds would notice. You don’t hear the similarity when spoken , only written, and there will be relatively few times you will write their names all together… Of course, you could always introdule [name]Phoebe[/name] in the middle ([name]Violet[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Oliver[/name] / [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Violet[/name]. )

I really love [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] together! [name]Both[/name] names have similar styles, and go well with [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you have mn’s picked out?

Thanks for the feedback! We love the names, together and apart, and I think we will end up using them together.

Middle names are still a work in progress. We are pretty sure [name]Oliver[/name] will be [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] [name]John[/name] after our fathers, but middle names for the girls are completely up in the air. We’re tossing around a few ideas, but we want to focus on picking a name for a second boy first. Stay tuned, though, because we will definitely need some help finalizing middle names!

I came across triplets two of whom are named [name]Lily[/name] and [name]Emily[/name], nice names but not in a sibset!

[name]Violet[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] imo are very similar because they look matchy, the eye picks up the similarity immediately. (Of course if you love them a lot, then don’t worry).

I am sorry to be the one out of step with everyone else because they are lovely names.

If it was me I would be choosing to put [name]Oliver[/name] in the middle name spot because I think [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Gwendolen[/name] work brilliantly together. I know you took a while to decide on [name]Phoebe[/name] but for some unknown reason her name looks shorter than [name]Violet[/name]'s name, yet you have the same amount of letters in each.

Would [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] work?

[name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Jonathan[/name] and [name]Bridget[/name]. Note that two of the siblngs have a name ending in ‘n’ and two ending in ’ t’ which I think is a nice link.

[name]Bridget[/name] [name]Laurel[/name] works for me.

Again sorry to put a cat amongst the pidgeons, but that is how I see it.

best wishes
