I can’t believe I have only a month to go and still do not have a name picked out! I’m hoping you may be able to offer some suggestions…
Some background…
this is our first baby so no siblings
her last name is 2 syllables and begins with a “Z”
hubby and I are trying to avoid anything trendy or too popular (higher than 300 on SSA list)
I adore names beginning with “E” and “I”
We’d like to find a 3 syllable first name
To make things even more complicated we both like the middle name “[name]Saoirse[/name]” and the reason we have taken that off the table as a first name is just that people would probably have such a tough time pronouncing it (Seer-sha).
I really like OLD names like [name]Helen[/name], [name]Edith[/name] but hubby not so much
I think if we are for sure on [name]Saoirse[/name] as a MN we can’t have a first name ending in an “uh” sound because it wouldn’t sound right so this leaves out a lot of names we otherwise like ending in “a”.
Any ideas? Suggestions? I think a boy may have been much easier to name! :?
Thanks so much for any desperately needed help!
I second [name]Irene[/name] prn ee ray nay, although that might be hard to get people to do. [name]Irina[/name] or [name]Irena[/name] are pretty, although heavily Russian and of course ending in -a (I really don’t think it’s so bad with a 3 syllable name, but that’s just my taste). Not sure about the popularity on some of these, and don’t remember meanings/roots for all
[name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Elinor[/name]
[name]Eleni[/name] (Greek form of [name]Helen[/name])
[name]Eleri[/name] (Welsh name, I think)
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Emmaline[/name] (Emmaleen or [name]Emmaline[/name])
[name]Eulalie[/name] (French from Greek for good speech, oo la [name]LEE[/name] or you [name]LAY[/name] lee, maybe)
[name]Idony[/name] (Scandinavian, new eternity, kind of like [name]Eden[/name]-ee)
[name]Ione[/name] (eye oh nee - a Greek name)
Probably there are more but those are coming to mind right now – good luck!
Thank you all for your suggestions!!! I went over the list with my husband and the one he was liking was “[name]Eleri[/name].” I like it too but I’d be afraid of her becoming another “[name]Ellie[/name]” as a nn.
My personal favorite is [name]Imogen[/name]. [name]Love[/name] the name. I also think it sounds good with [name]Saoirse[/name] and our last name. Problem is, my husband mentioned it to his family and they gave it a thumbs down.
I love [name]Estella[/name] as well but worry about the popularity of [name]Stella[/name]. I like the nn [name]Estee[/name] though.
So many others are just wonderful names. [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Philippa[/name], [name]Ianthe[/name], Elowen, [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and [name]Ingrid[/name] are a few that spring to mind. [name]Cecily[/name] is beautiful but we have a local weather girl whose name is [name]Cecily[/name] and I am afraid people would think we named our child after her!!
I also love [name]Idony[/name]. Never heard it before but it sounds like a perfect spring baby name; I just worry about pronunication problems. I was on board with [name]Ione[/name] months ago but that is another one my husband mentioned to his family and they expressed a strong dislike. My family knows better and keeps their mouths shut!!
Thanks again for your help!!! I am just hoping to at least get a short list by the time I go into labor.
