DH and I have been talking about if the baby is a girl. You’ve all been really helpful in previous polls, so thank you. Anyways, we’re pretty sure that we’d narrowed it down to [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] or [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] for a baby sister to [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
However, my DH has recently decided he really loves the name [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]. We’d previously thought of using it as a middle name for if we choose [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]. It’s his late great-grandmother’s name.
I was really hesitant at first, but I think I’m beginning to love it. I also think it’s a little more accessible with the strong character of [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] in the avengers movies, so it’s not entirely unheard of now.
What do you guys think? Are we crazy? Could a little girl named [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] actually work? And what middle names actually go with [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]? I’d like to put something a little more modern there. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as a side note for that, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a no go, since my name is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. My DH also doesn’t want the middle to be [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] or anything in that general Mad_ name style.
So yeah, we’d love to hear if this would even work. Or is it just a guilty pleasure name that doesn’t belong on a child?
Thank you so much, we’d love to hear your feedback!
Well I mean, honestly, I don’t like it myself as I think it sounds extremely dated, but for you - you both really like it and its growing more and more on you by the minute and it’s a family name (and being great grandma’s name, yes, I suppose it would sound a little dated today, but with the family connection, it could work). Also, I’ve never really seen the show, but [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] screams Fairly Oddparents to me, which is not a deterrent, but pop culture’s at least something to consider. I don’t know of the [name_f]Marvel[/name_f] connection, but I suppose that ‘modern’ association could make it more wearable for a modern baby.
Overall, if you really love it and want to use it - go for it. Old-fashioned type names in general have been making a comeback for years, so why not [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]?
Outside of [name_f]Wanda[/name_f], I would love to see [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], which is just gorgeous, and works so well with big sister’s name.
Thank you for pointing out the Fairly Oddparents thing. We hadn’t thought of that. Neither DH nor I have ever seen that show, but other people might link it to that.
Thanks for the insight!
Fairly odd parents is definitely my first though. I adore [name_f]Iris[/name_f] though! [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] would be goergeoud
Yeah I get the vibe from that show too. But honestly, idk how many other people will think of that when they meet her. It’s not my personal style but it’s definately unique, and it sounds like you really love it. It’s a little dated but could seem vintage or cool. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought: you could use [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] as an alternative/call her [name_f]Wendy[/name_f].
Like pp said it is a bit dated, but I like it for you, especially paired with the right middle. [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] from your sig is nice, or [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] complement each other nicely. On the Fairly Oddparents note, I used to watch the show and it didn’t cross my mind. I actually thought of the girl from the [name_u]Magic[/name_u] School Bus, who was kind of an annoying bossy-boots.
Honestly I really dislike [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] - sorry!! It just feels heavy and dated. I love [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] though :). [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] is gorgeous! I also love [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] together but there’s just something about the pairing of [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]…
While I am not a big fan of most of the “old lady” names that have come back in style of late, I can understand the appeal of a few of them–[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f] etc. But, to me, [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] is one that should stay in mothballs. It’s just really clunky and I have this premonition of [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] being very jealous of [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]'s adorable name.
I’d [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] to meet a little [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]! It’s so retro and refreshing; I’m kind of over the sweetly vintage names that are so popular right now ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], etc); they’re lovely, but I’m hearing so much of them! [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] is substantial, memorable, and quirky.
I really like [name_f]Wanda[/name_f], it has a whimsical/vintage vibe. I think it fits well with [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] for those reasons.
Possible mn:
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]! It’d be nice to meet a baby named this The fairly odd parents thing doesn’t really bother me when you’ve got the [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] Maximoff connection (your own little [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] Witch!) I thnk it compliments [name_f]May[/name_f] really well! From your sig, I like [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] & [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f] as middles
I love the name [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]. I like that you never hear it anymore, and I really think that the sound in itself is quite pretty.
Someone suggested [name_f]Louise[/name_f] as a middle name, and I think that flows really nicely. [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]! So darling.
I love vintage names, but [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] still doesn’t quite get there for me - maybe because I love your other options so much. I’m not sure [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] is ready to come back yet. I’ve know a [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] with the nn [name_f]Wendy[/name_f], so would that scratch the itch for [name_f]Wanda[/name_f]? Generally I’m all for pushing the boundaries, but [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] is a guilty-pleasure-type name that hasn’t made it past the gate for me. Maybe it will be different for her generation? I wish we could predict. I’m just not sure I would want to be the sister named [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] when my sibling was called [name_f]May[/name_f]. Congratulations, and good luck!
[name_f]Wanda[/name_f] from FairlyOdd Parents is a super awesome fairy! She’s responsible, nurturing, very loving to her (G)Odd child and her husband of many hundreds of years, the smart one of the bunch, and extremely loyal. The association with the show would be a positive thing - there’s bound to be a character in the media with your child’s name (and everyone else’s - [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] from Twilight!).
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] has that old school classic vibe which is super trendy now, especially with nicknames so [name_f]Wanda[/name_f] wouldn’t be a bad middle name at all.
You can tell I love the show. I watched it into my teens. Hahaha
