I’ve really fallen for Ariadne as of late (had it on my long list for a long time - just crept up on me recently), and can see it fitting a daughter of mine beautifully. I’m also head over heals in love with both Anja and Lilja. I am, therefore, after some reviews on the combo Ariadne Lilja, who would go by Anja quite a bit. I know many would consider the nickname quite a stretch really, but do you think it could work?
So, what do you think of Ariadne Lilja “Anja”? (If you don’t like the idea of Anja, what do you think of Ariadne Lilja as a combo?)
I don’t think [name_f]Anja[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]. I mean, I get it, yeah, but [name_f]Anja[/name_f] just doesn’t work, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. To me, it’s like naming your son [name_m]William[/name_m] but calling him [name_m]George[/name_m].
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] is unexpected and gorgeous. [name_m]Both[/name_m] names are beautiful and I adore the [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] spelling. So lovely!
[name_f]Anja[/name_f] isn’t an intuitive nickname for [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], but I like it.
I love [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f], I’ve been loving [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] for a while now. [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] us beautiful too, and the spelling is amazing! I can see [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] becoming nn [name_f]Anja[/name_f], but I prefer [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] in full.
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] is lovely! I think [name_f]Anja[/name_f] can work as a short form. In Russian, [name_f]Anya[/name_f] is a diminutive of [name_f]Anna[/name_f], so why not [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]?
I think [name_f]Anja[/name_f] could work as a nickname. I’m not sure if it’s just me but the whole name seems like a mouth full. All beautiful names though.
I love both [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilja[/name_f], but I can’t stand [name_f]Anja[/name_f]… [name_f]Anja[/name_f] is a name that was popular here around and mostly just before I was born, so for me it’s very dated… It doesn’t help that the two [name_f]Anja[/name_f]'s I’ve known were both very ordinary.
As a nickname it is a stretch, but I’ve seen much worse, and I like the idea of getting to use more of your favourites
Thank you all for your replies. I’m glad, for the most part, that the combo (and even the unintuitive nickname idea) is getting positive reactions. For the most part, she’d go by [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] - [name_f]Anja[/name_f] would be something I’d call her as somewhat of a petname, like one would use [name_f]Princess[/name_f] and Bub, you know?

I understand that in Norway [name_f]Anja[/name_f] is quite the once-common and dated name (heard it before from Norwegian friends) but here in Australia it would come across in more of a fresh and ‘romantic’ kind of way for the most part I imagine (though some pronunciation issues would definitely occur if being read as written). For some reason, I just adore [name_f]Anja[/name_f], especially with the J.
