I think it is pronounced ‘’[name]Ah[/name]-ree-add-ney’’
[name]Ariadne[/name]? I think it sounds really beautiful, but I worry it sounds made up or too mythical?
What are your thoughts?
Useable? Sounds to mythical?

I love [name]Ariadne[/name] and have for a while - I think it’s beautiful, and while it’s rather mythical-sounding I think in [name]Ariadne[/name]'s case it’s a good thing and not over-the-top. I can definitely see a girl of any age wearing it very well. The only issue I can think of is spelling/pronunciation. But honestly, if you love the name, it’s not that difficult to say “A.R.I.A.D.N.E” or correct the pronunciation.
I like it a lot – The Cruxshadows have a lovely song called “[name]Ariadne[/name],” which turned me on to name. You could always directed people (friends/family/people who would interact most with your future daughter) to it to get them used to the pronunciation. Plus, there’s the character in the movie, Inception, which should help to make the name more familiar outside of mythology. It’s not too far off from [name]Arianna[/name] and [name]Aria[/name], but others might confuse [name]Ariadne[/name] for either of those two, as well.
I love it and wish my other half didn’t think it was weird. I pronounce it [name]Air[/name]-ee-add-nee, so be aware of that pronunciation if it will bother you. I don’t think it sounds too mythical, but judging by how people reacted when I threw it out there, many people do. To me, that doesn’t matter much. It’s a beautiful name, and I don’t think it’s too much for a child.
I love [name]Ariadne[/name] it is absolutely beautiful!
I love it and it’s one of the more usable Greek mythology names. It’s feminine and delicate, lovely.
It’s pretty and totally usable. it’s not so unusual that people will think you made it up, it’s been in use as a given name, kwim?
I WANT to love it - but for some reason it makes me think Arachne, arachnid, Araneae and other spider terms
I really like this name
I like it very, very much!
Caveat: I think you will naturally get people pronouncing it either with two short A’s (air-ee-add-nee) or two broad ones (ah-ree-ahd-nee), so your preferred pronunciation may be tricky to enforce.
I think it’s usable though I do gave a friend named [name]Ariane[/name] who was almost [name]Ariadne[/name] but her parents chickened out at the last moment…they figured if she ever had acne they would call her [name]Ari[/name]-acne at school!
I think it’s like [name]Athena[/name] or [name]Persephone[/name]…very wearable & mythical but familiar enough to use.
[name]Ariadne[/name] is pronounced air-ee-[name]AD[/name]-nee in Greek. Here’s the post I did not long ago about how to pronounce these Greek myth names – Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums
I love it. It’s very cool and spunky but still beautiful. I think it’s mythical but not like [name]Athena[/name] or [name]Hera[/name] is (not as well known, but still connected)
I love [name]Ariadne[/name]! (But I know DH would never go for it.) I think it’s totally usable and has great nickname potential. It seems familiar to me somehow, like I’ve heard it somewhere recently, but I can’t figure out where, and I haven’t seen any of the shows/movies people have mentioned so far. I pronounce it [name]AIR[/name]-ee-[name]ADD[/name]-nee, but I don’t think it would difficult to lead people to the prn. you prefer. I also love [name]Ariane[/name], which pp mentioned. I came across that one in a book a while ago and fell in love with it.
I think it has a really pretty sound! It does make me think of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] (?) and arachnids, but I think that would fade to the background once I connected it with a child. I prn it Aur-ee-odd-nee, FYI.
^Agreed! I think [name]Ariadne[/name] is a very, very pretty name, and definitely usable. I feel like you’d have a couple nickname options as well: [name]Ari[/name], [name]Aria[/name], [name]Ria[/name], [name]Addie[/name], etc…
I guess I’m the lone dissenter here but I don’t like the “DN” sound at all, it sounds awkward to me.
I like it very, very much, too!
I absolutely adore the nn [name]Ari[/name] and I think [name]Ariadne[/name] is just fabulous. I would love to meet one one day! If [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name] weren’t set as my top two, I would seriously consider [name]Grace[/name] [name]Ariadne[/name] something or other. I just love that combo! I think [name]Ariadne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] is fabulous, too, although I’m biased, haha.
