Ariadne - yes or no?

Hi! What do you think about [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] as a first name? I love it’s mysterious vibe, interesting namesake and have always felt drawn to this name. But here are my concerns - will it get mispronounced oftentimes and is it close to “arachnid” soundwise for you?

Should I maybe use it as a middle instead? Other names that I seem to love as much as [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] are [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but they’re super popular.

TIA!

Unpopular opinion: It looks messy to me, I don’t know why but something about it feels quite wrong. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not a fan of it.

I don’t think it’s hard to pronounce. Doesn’t remind me of arachnid.

How are you pronouncing it? I looked it up and found a couple different pronunciations: [name_f]Air[/name_f]-ee-add-nee and [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-dee-add-nee.
Either way, it feels kind of messy to me. It doesn’t remind me of arachnid, though.

I love [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]! Both the sound and the mythical connection.
I have no idea how much it will be mispronounced, or even what pronunciation you are going for, but I can’t see how you’d get to “arachnid”.

Not my style, but I think it’s perfectly usable. It will probably get mispronounced, but it’s really not a big deal (my name has gotten mispronounced by every single person who’s ever said my name). Never made me think of arachnid, more so makes me think of [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] and Greek mythology.

I love [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]! I think it has a really beautiful and sweet sound. I don’t get how people could get arachnid from it lol. It might get mispronounced sometimes but I don’t think it’s that big a deal, my name gets mispronounced a lot and it doesn’t bother me.

I really like the song; I didn’t used to but then I listened to this song on repeat and now it’s got this slightly gothic, melancholic, hauntingly beautiful vibe to me. I do think it’s usable up front but I also really like it as a middle name.

I would never be able to pronounce that name. It looks pretty, but as someone with a differently spelled name, that isn’t quite that out there, people always misspell it and misprounounce it. It drives me insane. I miss a lot of emails because of it too so that I had to take my first name out of my email address. You could consider names like Liliet, [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] to use [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] could be short for other names as well like [name_f]Lucina[/name_f], [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f].

Ariadne is really cool and distinct.

I like it. I think it’s interesting

Very pretty, and mythology connections are always a plus! I don’t think it looks too much like “arachnid” at all.

It’s not my personal favorite, but I can absolutely see the appeal of all the factors you mentioned! I do think it will get mispronounced sometimes, but I wouldn’t let that be a dealbreaker for a name you love unless you think it will really bother you. I don’t think I would have thought of “arachnid” if you hadn’t pointed it out, although I see the resemblance now that you mention it. It doesn’t really bother me. From the rest of your list, I adore [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is really sweet too). But if [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] is the one you’re most enthusiastic about, I think it’s a great name!

I adore [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]! It might get mispronounced a bit, but plenty of names are (including mine!) and I don’t see it being close to arachnid at all. If popularity is a worry for you and you love it then I’d say go for it! I always think being drawn to a name is a very good sign that it might be the one. But it would also make a beautiful middle if there’s a name you love a bit more.

I love [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]! I don’t think of arachnid at all, and I don’t find it difficult to pronounce.

I think it’s really beautiful! I love the sound and story As far as mythological names go, I think it’s one of the more familiar and easy to pronounce, but you would occasionally have to correct people. It’s brave but usable!

I love it! In mythology arachnid was from [name_f]Arachne[/name_f] who was a different person, so I don’t associate that with [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]

Yes.

This part I disagree with though. :joy:

I’ve always thought this too! I do still like the name though, purely because I think it sounds so elegant when said aloud - I just don’t like it written down, unfortunately.

I don’t think it’s too close to arachnid, and although it might get mispronounced sometimes, I think it’s well-established enough to not be problematic.

[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] would be gorgeous!
