Aria's popularity?

One of the few names my husband and I both can agree on is [name_f]Aria[/name_f] for our girl due in [name_f]October[/name_f]. We love Game of Thrones so I don’t really mind if people assume her name is in reference to that. I am concerned about how trendy it is lately though: It’s within the top 20 now. I don’t want her to be one of several little Arias in her class (I’m a [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and I hated how common my name was as a kid).

I don’t actually know anyone who has named their baby [name_f]Aria[/name_f] personally. Is it really that popular? [name_m]How[/name_m] many Arias do you know?

[name_f]TIA[/name_f]!!

I’ve never met one but it’s supposedly quite popular.

I had a high school student named [name_f]Aria[/name_f], and several students have suggested [name_f]Aria[/name_f] as a name for our gestating daughter. I think it’s on people’s minds.

I know 2 but I don’t think it’s too popular

I can think of 3 girls I know under the age of 10 (and 2 under 4) with the name [name_f]Aria[/name_f]. It is a lovely name, but I think it will remain quite popular for a while. However, location does matter, and for reference I am in the American Midwest.

Husband and I went through this same dilemma lol. I love love love the name, love the character, and I wanted to use it sooo badly but we decided against it. The only time I’ve heard it used so far in real life was at the zoo, heard a woman call her daughter. It’s hard to know how popular it really is since the biggest jump was last year, all the aria’s are still infants. But of course if you love the name, go for it! It’s a beautiful name.

If you do some searching though there are some other great names from [name_m]George[/name_m] R.R. [name_m]Martin[/name_m]'s work. We’re using Lyanna for a middle name. Some others I considered were [name_f]Alys[/name_f], [name_u]Elia[/name_u], [name_f]Freya[/name_f] (personal fave but husband was totally against), [name_f]Alayne[/name_f] (a fake name [name_f]Sansa[/name_f] uses in the books) or Brienne. Many of these are not used on the show so they wouldn’t be as recognized as GOT names.

I have loved the name [name_f]Aria[/name_f] since before Game of Thrones started, and always wanted to name my future daughter [name_f]Aria[/name_f]. I, however, was worried that most people would assume I named her [name_f]Aria[/name_f] BECAUSE of Game of Thrones or Pretty [name_m]Little[/name_m] Liars (which I don’t even watch). I was a classical singer for a long time and names like [name_f]Aria[/name_f], [name_f]Melody[/name_f] and [name_f]Chanson[/name_f] (Chanse) were always very attractive to me. I’ve decided to use it as a middle name instead of a first name. Maybe this could be an option for you as well?

While I don’t know any [name_f]Aria[/name_f]'s personally (west coast, US) I do know a few from online mom boards. If you really love it, I wouldn’t let popularity bother you. I do recommend checking your state’s popularity charts. It may be less popular where you live. Also, less babies are given Top 100 names than when we were children. So while you might’ve been 1 of 5 [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Aria[/name_f] might only end up being 1 of 2.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though statistics may say different, I don’t actually think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is necessarily ‘popular’ as I’ve never heard of anyone actually being named [name_f]Aria[/name_f] in real life. I think it’s more familiar and well known than popular due to both aforementioned television shows.

Personally, I think the spelling [name_f]Aria[/name_f] will make more people think of Pretty [name_m]Little[/name_m] Liars first, as in Game of Thrones it is spelt [name_u]Arya[/name_u].

With all that being said, I think [name_f]Aria[/name_f] is a very pretty name and I love that it is familiar so the majority of people nowadays will know how it is pronounced etc. I do, however, also think that although you experienced more than one other person share you name in school (weird to me as there was only one in primary and one in secondary school besides me!) [name_f]Aria[/name_f] may only be one of two, possibly three in her whole school.

It’s raising but it’s not quite there yet. I think you’ll be safe for a couple more years

I volunteer at my daughter’s school. She’s not an [name_f]Aria[/name_f], but each teacher has the names of their students on their doors, and I am sure that there are more than five Arias in the k-1 corridor alone. Since location is a factor, we’re in the American Northeast.

I work in a daycare and I have a 19 month old in my class called [name_f]Aurea[/name_f] (pronounced [name_f]Aria[/name_f])

Thought I’d come back with a little update to my previous response, since reading this post I’ve heard of an additional 3 [name_f]Aria[/name_f]'s out and about, all under the age of 5. So I’d say it’s definitely growing in popularity (here in the south at least).
