Arlo? Arlo with a Boston accent? Initials ASK?

Dear Berries,

What do you think of the name [name]Arlo[/name]?

My partner and I like it because it honors his grandpa [name]Arlin[/name]. However, I don’t know if I like the sound of it, especially as my family has a strong [name]Boston[/name] accent and pronounces it Ahhhh-lo.

Is it still usable? [name]How[/name] else could we honor [name]Arlin[/name]? What names go with [name]Arlo[/name] if he had a brother/sister?

Middle name would be [name]Scott[/name]. Are the initials A.S.K. weird?

Thank you so much for thoughts/suggestions!

[name]Arlo[/name] is handsome! I don’t think the initials ASK would be weird. I’m not sure how else you could honor a [name]Arlin[/name]… I had considered [name]Arlen[/name] to honor my grandmother ([name]Arlene[/name]), so I suppose it could go the other way, too, but then that wouldn’t be a boys’ name. I guess you could do [name]Marlin[/name], [name]Carlin[/name], [name]Harlin[/name]/[name]Harlan[/name], Farland, etc. I think you could also do something like [name]Harley[/name] or [name]Marley[/name]… I actually really like the idea of [name]Harlan[/name] to honor an [name]Arlin[/name], actually.

I don’t know what to say about the [name]Boston[/name] accent, because I don’t really know anyone with a [name]Boston[/name] accent… every time I try to form it into an accent other than my own, I always come up with a British ahhhh-lo. Which I guess might be similar as that’s how you wrote it out, haha, but I’m guessing it would sound quite different. Would the whole accent thing be a deal-breaker?

As for a sibling for [name]Arlo[/name], I don’t know. I keep coming to [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]. Maybe [name]Mara[/name] for a sister?

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! [name]Arlo[/name] is growing on me. I like the suggestion of Farland or [name]Harlan[/name] though and will ask my hubby what he thinks of them. I definitely would not have thought of those. I will continue to try out [name]Arlo[/name] with my mother who has the strongest [name]Boston[/name] accent ever.

I don’t really care for [name]Arlo[/name], but it’s not a bad name! I would ask people who have an accent what they think of it so you can see how it comes out. (don’t tell them about the accent concern)
My husband has a thick queens accent so I understand how you have to nix certain letter sounds when considering names. [name]Imagine[/name] trying to be an [name]Aurora[/name]…

I say Ahh-lo and I think it’s a gorgeous name! I’m from New Zealand but I’ve heard the [name]Boston[/name] accent and it sounds surprisingly similar to ours. I nearly died when I heard an American guy say “haahdest paaht.” I swear he could’ve been my true blue kiwi neighbour!
I think it’s a lovely way to honour [name]Arlin[/name].

Embrace the [name]Boston[/name] accent! Or put the name in the middle spot. There is no way you will be able to train the accent out of your relatives just for the sake of little [name]Arlo[/name]. I have a frind with a baby named [name]Arlo[/name] - not in [name]Boston[/name] however - he is so sweet that he made this name so charming to my ear. I have a grandfather who was named Arlas and I wuold totally consider using [name]Arlo[/name] to honr him if I have the chance.
