There’s a male [name_m]Artemas[/name_m] in the Bible; [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] looks wrong to me. That said, my brother [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] gets “Barnabus” all the time, so the U spelling might possibly save some headaches
Really? Nobody has ever had any issues spelling my son’s name. But in our language/accent Barnabas and Barnabus sound completely different though.
I absolutely love both, and it’s just so great seeing these alternatives instead of using [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] for a boy, which I’m not a fan of haha. Anyway, I have [name_m]Artemus[/name_m] on my list, because I prefer how it looks, and I think it’s more intuitive to the pronunciation.
In our American [name_f]English[/name_f] accent, they sound identical unless one is really emphasizing that the vowels are different. I think people default to the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names like [name_m]Julius[/name_m], [name_m]Maximus[/name_m] etc. when they come to spell [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m].
