[name]Artemis[/name] reminds me of the goddess and she has always been my favorite. My name is the roman equivalent, [name]Diana[/name], so [name]Artemis[/name] has always been a favorite girl’s name. However, I can’t name my child that because it’s too close to my name, it’s also a rare name and I would be afraid of her getting teased for it. But I defiantly see it as a girl’s name and have no idea why so many male characters are name [name]Artemis[/name]… What was wrong with [name]Apollo[/name]???
[name]Artemis[/name] Pebdani is an actress.
I like it on both
The original name is [name]Artemas[/name], follower of [name]Artemis[/name]. Blame [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl for the confusion. [name]Artemas[/name] and [name]Artemus[/name] are the boy spellings. The character from [name]Wild[/name] [name]Wild[/name] [name]West[/name] is [name]Artemus[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]
100% see it as girl
When I was younger, I wanted boy/girl twins–[name]Apollo[/name] and [name]Artemis[/name].
[name]Artemis[/name] = girl (female deity)
[name]Artemas[/name] = boy (male saint)
I know a boy whose middle name is [name]Artemas[/name], so it could be a boy to me. However there is also the goddess so I could see it equally on either. The fact that I know an [name]Artemas[/name] makes it lean more towards boy for me with the A spelling, with an I, I would assume it was a female name.
I also pronounce them slightly differently, if that makes sense. [name]Artemas[/name] I pronounce more like AR-tem-uss whereas [name]Artemis[/name] I pronounce like AR-tem-iss. Very slightly different.
The spelling [name]Artemus[/name] is suppose to be for a boy (or [name]Artemas[/name]) and [name]Artemis[/name] for a girl. I love [name]Artemis[/name] on a boy 2 because of many fictional boys I’ve found – [name]Artemus[/name] [name]Gordon[/name], [name]Artemis[/name] Fowl, [name]Artemis[/name] Entreri…
but I wouldn’t want to make the [name]Goddess[/name] [name]Artemis[/name] angry >.<
I think it works fine on either so I didn’t vote. Artemus boy, Artemis girl (with nn Artie)
I grew up with an [name]Artemis[/name]-- nn [name]Artie[/name]. In my mind, it’s a classy name with a cute nn for a girl.
Thanks to everyone who replied! I didn’t realize that the character’s name from [name]Wild[/name] [name]Wild[/name] [name]West[/name] was spelled [name]Artemus[/name], but even so, when I look at any of the spellings ([name]Artemis[/name]/[name]Artemus[/name]/[name]Artemas[/name]) I still get the same pronunciation in my head: “Ar-tem-iss.” I really like the name, and although most people voted that it was more of a girl name to them, I still see it on a boy first, but now I’m more open to the idea of it on a girl. Does anyone think it could be considered unisex? I guess I should have put that option on my poll!
I just learned that [name]Artemis[/name] and [name]Apollo[/name] were twins, and as soon as I saw that, I immediately thought that would be such a cool twinset. I always love to come up with names for sets of twins, even though I have no more of a chance of having twins than most people.
Even though I feel like I’m dishonoring Lady Artemis by saying this, I think in the modern word [name]Artemis[/name] is sort of the perfect unisex name. Let me explain.
It has hard consonant sounds like a lot of boy names, but soft sounds like a lot of girl names (Or the -us sound like [name]Roman[/name] Emperor names – [name]Julius[/name] etc). [name]Art[/name] is great for a boy, [name]Artie[/name]/[name]Missy[/name] is great for a girl. There are a tons of fictional boys that boy [name]Artemis[/name]/[name]Artemus[/name] could look up to, and there’s the Greek goddess that girl [name]Artemis[/name] could look up to. Spell it Artemas/Artemus for a boy and Artemis for a girl, there you go.
I don’t see [name]Artemis[/name] as being unisex. I was really into Greek mythology when I was younger,so it’s all girl to me. In the same way [name]Apollo[/name] is all boy.
But the [name]Artemas[/name]/[name]Artemus[/name] spellings are male,so there’s already a male alternative there for you. I would say them all differently, but only very slightly.
[name]Artemis[/name] is my favourite of the Greek Goddesses, so I’ll always see it as a girl’s name.
I think it’s unisex. When I see or hear [name]Artemis[/name] I don’t picture a girl or a boy because I think it works equally fine on both genders.
