Arthur or Edmund?

Hello,

I’m loving the names [name]Arthur[/name] ([name]Art[/name]) and [name]Edmund[/name] ([name]Ted[/name]). Middle name will most likely be [name]Timothy[/name] (a family name).

So…

[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]
OR
[name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]

I’d like to know which one you prefer, and why.

Thanks so much!

[name]Edmund[/name]!! It’s so classy and sophisticated. It’s a lovely name and not as clunky as [name]Arthur[/name]

I totally love [name]Edmund[/name]! [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] is a fabulous name! [name]Arthur[/name] is not terrible but not my cup of tea - it makes me think of an old man smoking a cigar.

I love [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Ted[/name], but don’t like [name]Art[/name] of [name]Edmund[/name]. Hah! I feel like [name]Arthur[/name] works so well on its own without a nickname. I like [name]Edward[/name] with nn [name]Ted[/name] so I don’t know why I don’t like [name]Edmund[/name] as much. I think my choice would [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name].

I think [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] works better as a combination than [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]; with both [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Timothy[/name] together there are too many “th” sounds.

[name]Edmund[/name]! [name]Edmund[/name] is that name I always want to use but just feel mean since it’s SO uncommon where I live. I much prefer it to [name]Arthur[/name]. [name]Even[/name] the [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] association isn’t enough to drag [name]Arthur[/name] away from fusty old men in smoking jackets. [name]Edmund[/name] on the other hand is the best of the Pevensies (after book one of course) and the sweet cousin in [name]Mansfield[/name] [name]Park[/name]. You can’t go wrong there.

I really like [name]Edmund[/name] but I think in this instance I’d vote for [name]Arthur[/name].
[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]. ([name]Art[/name]) seems to make more sense to me than [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] ([name]Ted[/name]).
Probably because I keep thinking [name]Ted[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] or [name]Teddy[/name] [name]Tim[/name] which sound a bit silly to me.

[name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] sounds better, but I prefer the sweet [name]Arthur[/name].

Another vote for [name]Arthur[/name]. I’m not too keen on [name]Edmund[/name] and not sure on [name]Ted[/name] for a nickname

This is so hard because I really love both of these names, but I think in this instance [name]Arthur[/name] gets my vote. I prefer [name]Art[/name] to [name]Ted[/name] (although I prefer [name]Teddy[/name] to both) and I think [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] sounds better than [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]. Also, [name]Arthur[/name] has amazing imagery and connotations with [name]King[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]. That said, you really can’t go wrong with either name

It’s hard to choose because I honestly love them both. I think I’d go with [name]Arthur[/name] though because I’ve really fallen in love with it recently. Also, I prefer the nickname [name]Art[/name] over [name]Ted[/name].

My husband and I discussed naming a future son [name]Edmund[/name], and I proposed the nickname [name]Ned[/name]. Unfortunately, we nixed the name in the end but it was on the short list.

Def [name]Arthur[/name]!

Another vote for [name]Edmund[/name]! I like [name]Arthur[/name], but I love [name]Edmund[/name]. [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Kay[/name] is one of my Top Ten boys’ combos. Ditto Sparrowfinch’s [name]Narnia[/name] and “[name]Mansfield[/name] [name]Park[/name]” associations. I don’t especially love the nickname [name]Ted[/name] or feel that it’s intuitive for [name]Edmund[/name], but it works, and if you like it, go for it.
Best wishes!

I think both are very nice, but I would choose [name]Edmund[/name].

Ooh that’s a tough one. [name]Edmund[/name] is clunky-cool and I like that style of names. However, I’m not keen on the nn [name]Ted[/name] (but like [name]Teddy[/name], [name]Ed[/name], [name]Eddie[/name] and [name]Ned[/name]) so that puts me off [name]Edmund[/name] in this case a wee bit.

[name]Arthur[/name] is lovely and has old man chic and sweetness - helped along by the fact that I know an adorable baby [name]Arthur[/name] - so on balance that’s the one that gets my vote.

I absolutely love [name]Arthur[/name]. My choice is definitely [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name].

My vote goes to [name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name]. I think [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] is a little too M heavy.

[name]Arthur[/name] [name]Timothy[/name] hands down! Mostly because I adore the name [name]Arthur[/name] with the nn [name]Art[/name]!

[name]Arthur[/name], as I prefer [name]Art[/name] to [name]Ted[/name].

Past posters have mentioned picturing old men in smoking jackets, since when is that a bad thing.

[name]Arthur[/name] is a name that ages with the child, but not an aged name.
