[name_u]Asa[/name_u].
Is it usable? Pronounceable for ‘normal’ people and not just us name nerds? My SO is very on the fence about it because he has an uncommon name and doesn’t want to give our baby a name he (or she) is going to struggle with. I’m struggling to love a boys name and [name_u]Asa[/name_u] is very up there for me, plus I love the nickname [name_m]Ace[/name_m]!
Sure, I don’t see a problem with it. One of my daughter’s best friends is a little boy named [name_u]Asa[/name_u] who 2 years old. It’s an uncommon name, but I haven’t ever heard anybody who had trouble pronouncing it.
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] nn [name_m]Ace[/name_m] is at the top of my current boy’s name list, but I haven’t run it by my husband yet so we’ll see. But I think it is usable! I don’t see pronunciation, there are similar sounding names like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] (which are girl’s names, but I don’t think [name_u]Asa[/name_u] would be confused for a girl name?). It’s a lot shorter than all the other names on my list, and I worried about that being an issue, but there are lots of short names out there. Also [name_u]Asa[/name_u] Butterfield is an actor with the name, so I feel like it’s a name that most people will have heard of at least?
I’m not sure where you live but, here in the UK, [name_u]Asa[/name_u] last ranked at #608 on the top 1000 boy list. And in the U.S it was #518. So while it’s not an uber trendy and common name by any means, it’s well-known, and more mainstream than you might think. In my personal opinion, [name_u]Asa[/name_u] is a realistic choice as it is easily spelled and simple in terms of pronunciation. It’s really no different to your average [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] or [name_u]Noah[/name_u], and I can’t see anyone having a problem with it. It’s a nice name overall, so I’d say go for it.
I’ve never been sure how to pronounce this one. If you want to use the nickname [name_m]Ace[/name_m] I’m assuming it’s pronounced ace-uh? But I’m always inclined to say ah-sah which isn’t great, especially here in the UK where it sounds like the word we use for backside!
I really like [name_m]Ace[/name_m] though! Would you consider just using that?
I love [name_u]Asa[/name_u]! I think it’s becoming a top boys name for me. As for possible pronunciation issues, I think it’s safe to say you’ll come across a few people who won’t know how to say it but I really don’t think that should be a real concern. While it is somewhat uncommon it is slowly climbing the charts so by the time your son is in his teens I am sure it will be popular and more well-known amongst the public.
I’m frankly not quick sure how to pronounce [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. I would be inclined to pronounce it like the word “wing” in Portuguese (which, by the way, is what I see when I see this name), with a Z sound, something like ah-zah. However, if you are talking about the nickname [name_m]Ace[/name_m] I am assuming in English it is pronounced like ace-ah?
That confusion aside, I do like the name, because it is eye-catching and unusual.
Well, the only [name_u]Asa[/name_u] I know is a little girl (her mom wanted something “unique”) and I have noticed that people do have trouble pronouncing it. Some say “ace-ah” while others, myself included at times, say “a-zah”. It bugs her mom to no end.
Overall though, I’m sure it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. If [name_u]Asa[/name_u] is the one name you find yourself liking, then that makes it a very valid, logical choice!
There have been three [name_u]Asa[/name_u]'s at my tiny college in the four years I’ve been here. No one has ever had any trouble with their name. It is super wearable, and I think it suits all three of them, though they have different personalities. Use it!
I’ve heard someone accidentally pronounce it like the name [name_f]Asia[/name_f], but I feel like a majority of people know how to pronounce it.
I feel like it’s just uncommon enough, and I’ve learned through having a name that’s hard to spell, that the people who actually care about me will know how to spell my name, and those who don’t, don’t matter! Same goes with pronunciation.
I think you’ll have no problem with a beautiful name like [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. I actually know an [name_u]Asa[/name_u], he was the nicest/ most popular kid in my school, and I never heard anbody mispronounce his name before. So I think it’s a golden choice
I went to high school with a guy name [name_u]Asa[/name_u] and I don’t remember anyone having trouble pronouncing his name (not even substitute teachers). He pronounced it [name_m]Ace[/name_m]-uh, the same way I’m guessing you want it to be said if you’re going for the nickname [name_m]Ace[/name_m]. I love this name and think it’s super wearable.
I like [name_u]Asa[/name_u]! It reminds me of similar names like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] so I think it will fit in just fine. I would worry about pronunciation though, at least where I’m from (people don’t usually branch out very much with names) but it depends on your area whether or not that would be an issue. I’m really not a fan of [name_m]Ace[/name_m] though, makes me think of the incredibly annoying hardware store commercials ([name_m]Ace[/name_m] is the place with the helpful hardware folks!) whose jingle is just long enough to get stuck in your head.
I know a family of [name_u]Asa[/name_u]'s (4 generations same first name different middle) other wise it would be top of my list.
There were several members of the last synagogue I belonged to named [name_u]Asa[/name_u], and they were all over 70. Using the 100 year rule, it should be due for a comeback
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]
Gorgeous choice!
I think it’s fairly intuitive to pronounce ([name_f]Ava[/name_f] doesn’t seem to cause any problems) and it’s such a short and simple name that I think people would remember the pronunciation after one correction even if they weren’t sure at first.
Thumbs up!
I definitely think it’s usable (and absolutely gorgeous!).
Yay!! Thank you everybody for your replies! I think all these wonderful answers have convinced me to love it even more
Now if I can just get my boyfriend on board.
Also if anyone has any middle name suggestions that would be great!
I think it is so ripe with teasing potential
