We are pretty sure we’re naming our second son [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. I do have concerns about the name, though, and the biggest is pronunciation. It seems completely obvious to me that it’s pronounced [name_m]Ace[/name_m]-uh, but I’ve had several people think it’s Ass-uh or [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-suh. I’m pretty sure once people hear it a few times and get used to it, it’ll be fine. But it still scares me. My husband is not concerned at all!
I do have a Facebook friend who has a friend named [name_u]Asa[/name_u], but he spells it Aesa. I like the look of it and think maybe it would be easier to pronounce? However, when I look it up online, it seems to be maybe a girls’ name. Plus that’s not the traditional, biblical spelling, so maybe that would be even more confusing for people?
What do you think? Thanks in advance for your help!
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] is on our short list too! I taught a kid named [name_u]Asa[/name_u] years ago and the pronunciation was obvious for me also. I am against changing the spelling, even though it does ease pronunciation worries. However, some of my teacher-friends have brought up the incorrect ass-uh spelling and the similarity to the super-popular girls’ [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. But when I think about the amazing meaning and biblical history, along with the smooth correct pronunciation, I’m feeling like the good outweighs the bad! Great taste
I love [name_u]Asa[/name_u]. Considered it for our second, but ended up going with a dofferent choice. Still love it!
I think [name_u]Asa[/name_u] will be just fine. I’ve known two of them and neither have had any trouble to my knowledge. To be honest, I think Aesa would have more trouble than [name_u]Asa[/name_u].
Agree with others. [name_u]Asa[/name_u] hands down is better and will be easier. Besides, it’s spelled the way it’s pronounced, anybody who says Ass-a is a moron.
Aww, thank you so much guys. I totally agree. I just wanted to make sure we looked at all options before committing! I don’t know why some people have such a hard time with the name. Our 3 year old son is [name_m]Enzo[/name_m], and that was also a crazy choice and hard for some people, but now it’s just his name and everyone knows it (and seems to like it)! I’m sure the same will happen this time.
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] is an amazing name! I think Aesa is more confusing (I would probably pronounce it ee-suh). Ass-uh doesn’t make sense as a pronunciation of [name_u]Asa[/name_u] because it only has one s, [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-suh I could kind of understand but I think most people will say it correctly. Possibly my favourite boy combo ever is [name_u]Asa[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
I know 2 people called [name_u]Asa[/name_u] and have only ever thought about it being pronounced as Ay-Sa! Never ass-ah! Stick with [name_u]Asa[/name_u]
Thanks! You’ve all renewed my excitement for [name_u]Asa[/name_u], and my confidence in it, too! Can’t wait to name my newest little man [name_u]Asa[/name_u]!
I agree with the others–[name_u]Asa[/name_u], times 1,000! Aesa might be more obvious to those not familiar with [name_u]Asa[/name_u], but if I saw Aesa, I would just find it trashy. [name_u]Asa[/name_u] is so much more handsome and lovely!
