Asher - as a first name in North of England

Hello,

I am a Canadian living in the [name_u]North[/name_u] of [name_f]England[/name_f]. I would really like to use the first name [name_u]Asher[/name_u] for our boy due in [name_u]October[/name_u]. I am Jewish but my husbands family is not.

Hoping for some thoughts/opinions/experience with the name.

Not sure if it will be seen as too “American”.

Any thoughts welcome and also any middle name ideas would be appreciated. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband likes either [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] for a middle name.

Asher is actually in the top 250 most common baby boy names in England, so I think it’s perfectly useable!

It doesn’t seem too American in my opinion, but if you’re really worried I’d say you should use [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] rather than [name_u]James[/name_u] for a middle as [name_u]James[/name_u] seems a bit more American to me.

I ADORE the name Asher! I think it’s gorgeous and you can totally use it. It doesn’t seem too American to me! I like Asher Chase, Asher Blake, Asher Blaze and Asher Leo for middle name combos!

I’m in the [name_u]East[/name_u] of [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_u]Asher[/name_u] definitely isn’t too “American”, it’s rising in the charts here. Usable!

[name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] would work! [name_u]Asher[/name_u] may end up being pronounced as [name_f]Asha[/name_f], though.

Another [name_f]English[/name_f] [name_u]Berry[/name_u] here! [name_u]Asher[/name_u] is lovely, stylish but not overused here, and definitely not too “American”. It’s actually my 21-year-old BIL’s middle name!

I like [name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] a lot. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal preference is for [name_u]Joseph[/name_u], as [name_u]James[/name_u] feels very overused as a boys’ middle name, lovely though it is.

Seconding this! Plus, I’ve met several kids with very American names in the UK recently and no one’s commented or been bothered by them! Asher doesn’t strike me as too American at all though! It’s a gorgeous name!
