Can’t decide on baby number 3. Stuck on [name_m]Asher[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. We like both names and meanings. Big brothers are [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_u]Shane[/name_u], so looking for a name that sounds like it belongs with those. [name_u]Alex[/name_u], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_m]Asher[/name_m]? Or - [name_u]Alex[/name_u], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]? ([name_m]Nate[/name_m])?
Any advice or thoughts that would nudge me in a direction?
I think [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. Or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]. [name_u]Shane[/name_u] is a short name, [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is a long name, and I think [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] bridges the gap between them nicely!
I’d recommend not repeating the initial, as it may cause confusion in documents. Plus I just like [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] better than [name_m]Asher[/name_m], it sounds less trendy and more solid to me. You can’t go wrong with either though.
Both [name_m]Asher[/name_m] & [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] are great choices!! My favourite with your sibling set is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. I dislike in sibling sets when you have two children with the same initial ‘A’ and one without ‘S’ so if you use [name_m]Asher[/name_m] this is what would have happened, whereas if you use [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] each child would have there own initial. I also think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] has the classic sound that [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] possess but the go to nicknames of [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] & [name_m]Nate[/name_m] which sound great with [name_u]Shane[/name_u]. I feel that [name_m]Asher[/name_m] stylistically clashes with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] & [name_u]Shane[/name_u]. I would go with [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]!!!
I feel like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] is a mixture of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_u]Shane[/name_u] (same A first initial, sh sound and -er ending), so I would go for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m] sounds good as a combination though.
Thanks everyone. It certainly helps to hear others’ opinions.
To up it a notch, if you have any suggestions of names that sound great with my other boys, I’m up for suggestions. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and…
I also like the suggestion of just combining the two names I’m stuck on as first and middle, so perhaps baby 3 is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m]!
Yeah, these are my thoughts as well. It does bother me a little that [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] are so much longer than [name_u]Shane[/name_u], but it’s not that big a deal, especially if you tend to use nicknames.
I also love the suggestion of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m].
I think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m] sounds fabulous I definitely prefer [name_m]Nate[/name_m] over [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], though. I have a hard time viewing a diminutive like [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] as a nickname, when it’s so often used as a stand-alone. But [name_m]Nate[/name_m] is a legitimate nickname, and I actually kind of love it.
I think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m]/[name_m]Nathan[/name_m] works better with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] “[name_u]Alex[/name_u]” and [name_u]Shane[/name_u], but I like [name_m]Asher[/name_m] more (and love [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]!). I love the idea of [name_m]Nate[/name_m] as a nn, but I love everything about [name_m]Asher[/name_m] nn [name_u]Ash[/name_u]. If [name_m]Asher[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] was an option, then I would say that, but if not, I say go for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m].
My personal preference is [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] since [name_m]Asher[/name_m] reminds me of ashes. And if you have any troubles with [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], you could go with [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] and call him [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] for short. Also, another spelling for [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] could be [name_m]Nathanael[/name_m].
[name_m]Nathanial[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m] is fantastic, really nice! If you’re still looking for other ideas, [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] is another possibility.
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (or [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]) is a much better fit with the names of your other sons. I like the suggestion of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Asher[/name_m] (and it still allows you to use [name_m]Asher[/name_m]).
