Ashley

I am trying to analyze [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] in hindsight a bit. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it?

There are so many Ashleys around. I’m watching some 90s shows right now and I feel like on almost every episode there is a guest character actress named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] or a character called [name_u]Ashley[/name_u].

When you think about it and try to forget there are so many, it actually has a nice and soft sound, doesn’t it?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it only appealed to people who liked trendy names or surname names back in the day? I feel like it was more mainstream, that even people who would otherwise have gone for classics like [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] or [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f] would have liked it.

Which name that is popular now would you compare it to? What would be the next [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]?

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is okay - but you’re right, when you think about it, it does have a soft sound, sort of earthy/nature-y, surname-y and cool.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] I like it? I’m not sure - however, I have met more male Ashleys than girls :person_shrugging: I don’t know. I do kind of like the sounds, but I like Ashlyn/Aisling/Aislinn more?

I think it is one of those that appealed to the lovers of [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], [name_u]Courtney[/name_u], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and [name_u]Lindsey[/name_u], along side those who liked [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f], [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], I suppose because it has a feminine sound, kind of similar to [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_u]Shelley[/name_u] and [name_f]Cathy[/name_f], but at that point, newer.

I’d compare it to names like:

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] - similar surnamey vibe, but I can imagine it used alongside [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]

[name_f]Ava[/name_f] - shot up in popularity quickly, and while it has history, it feels ‘new’, potentially of the moment, but I’ve met sibsets of [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] etc.
I’d consider [name_u]Avery[/name_u] alongside that too.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u] - unisex, similar endings etc.
